  • Installed Quake2 v3.20
  • Full openGL 4.5 compatible 2GB video card AMD RX series or NVIDIA GF 6XX.
  • Integrated sound card with openAL drivers

Installation:

  • Install quake2 from Steam, GOG or from original CD-ROM.
  • For cd version install 3.20 patch.
  • Unzip q2xp in to quake2 folder.
  • Install openAL drivers for your audio card.
  • Remove previous version of xpconfig.cfg and CACHEXP folder.
  • Play it.

About compatibility with the original game (original multiplayer servers, old demos) and mods:

  • By default, the engine uses gamex86xp.dll (q2xp net protocol)
  • If engine can't find gamex86xp.dll it try load original q2 game dll and set original net protocol version
  • If you have booth game dlls you can use +set net_compatibility 1 for select net protocol version (like dm game on original q2 servers)

Crash? How to create log file:

  • quake2xp.exe +set developer 1 +set logfile 2
  • Find qconsole.log in baseq2 folder
  • Place content of the file to www.pastebin.com

Be sure to read - The original game has long been tested and works without problems. Departures game glitches shaders - it is a problem with your computer, not a port. If you have a prehistoric garbage - it's your problem. I have no desire to maintain the old system.

AMD Radeon cards work with new november adrenalin drivers (win10 only) now.


Use a clean installation. Unzip archive into folder with original game without previous versions of q2xp or other mods. Owners of Creative audio cards can remove openAl32.dll from the game folder. The renderer requires full support for OpenGL 4.5 with GL_ARB_bindless_texture and GL_ARB_texture_storage support.

Great mod, really enoyed playing the game.

What i noticed when playing the xatrix expansion is this: If i try to skip the xatrix logo video, the entire game gets stuck, and doesn't load anymore. If i don't skip the video, it loads fine. Unfortunately, in the error case I cannot create a logfile as when i exit manually using console no file was created despite the shortcut being:
+set game xatrix +set developer 1 +set logfile 2

I'm having the same issue as BenzoSt with that weird graphical glitch. I am using an rx 5700 xt and just tried it out with the new driver and software update, 21.2.1. However, it's still broken
