Quake 1.5 is a darkplaces addon mod for the original Quake. Utilizing Seven's SMC 5.30 as a base, it has been expanded to include new features such as weapons, gore, and plenty of level additions.

Post news Report RSS Quake 1.5 - New info and trailer

This update showcases a trailer for the mod as well as details for the beta.

Posted by on

Hey everyone! Sorry about the delays, I was meaning to make this news post a few days ago but a few things weren't ready and a lot of things have been screwing with my timetable.

Anyways on to the content, the trailer will do most of the talking for this update

New SSG based on the Quake Champions SSG

Shown in the trailer is the new super shotgun model. Based on the one from Quake Champions, it's a self loading shotgun that I thought was a good fit for the classic quake SSG. Don't worry, It's an optional change, the old super shotgun redesign is still in as well

The biggest change outside of gameplay teased in the trailer is probably the finale. The entirety of the end of Quake has been turned into something of it's own mini-chapter. On top of this most of the additions can be turned off through the menu or the console.

Most of the gameplay bugs have been squashed as of now (new monsters not dying properly was the big one, or not triggering level targets)

EXPANDED CAMPAIGN:

In addition to the new enemies in the mod, you can expect some new content as well - the existing bossfights have been redone and there are 2 new episode bosses with their own respective levels for you to sink your nails into, as well as a well hidden secret level with an entrance hidden in one of the existing quake levels.

BETA:

What you've all been waiting for - the beta - the SP beta is coming this week. MP exists and can be played but it is considered as-is for now, as the way Darkplaces handles MP you may end up having trouble with the mod and players dropping unless all players are in relatively the same area - some of the mod features will require a significant rewrite for a fully supported MP build

THE FUTURE:

A lot of people prefer the classic look and feel of Quakespasm and other fitzquake derived engines so about a month ago I started working on creating a blood/gore system that would work independent of engine choice, the Arcane Dimensions mod is the base and will be the basis for the Quake 1.5 port to the classic engines

Some WIP examples:

For QS and other classic expanded engines

It won't have all the customization of the darkplaces port but it will work with arcane dimensions, and it even works with the Mark V software renderer if you really want to go retro!

Again I apologize for the delays, and I can't wait to finally get this out to you guys soon!

Despite Quake I being my favorite singleplayer FPS of all time, one of the things that irked me is how weak the guns sound and feel. Arcane Dimensions kinda made the shotguns feel a bit more satisfying by switching them to fast projectiles rather than hitscan (also that triple-barreled shotgun that gibs 90% of the time), but it still felt lacking. This mod looks promising, and it'll likely scratch the itch I've had for heavy-hitting, impactful gunplay.

I've watched the trailer like 15+ times now and I'm impressed over and over every time I watch it again. I can't wait to play this.

While waiting for the beta/full release, I have two little questions.

1) How do you make the HUD look like the one used in the two QS WIP example screenshots?

2) Is there already an eta for the Quakespasm version?

Kind regards,
Berzerk
