Just a quick update to clarify that the upcoming public alpha will be expanded to 3 additional factions: the Alliance is now stable and ready for polishing alongside the Council and Reapers.
DOTR and SOTP both have very different research tech trees and UI’s. Out of curiosity have you decided to choose 1 mods style over the other or are you going to try and merge the 2 styles to make something new?
Our current design mission is "how can we incorporate DotR into SotP's framework, while still respecting its vision?"
DotR's research system is primarily notable for how much it makes you spread out: the building slot count is something in the ballpark of 6 compared to SotP's 1. For now, until we can pivot and try to make a systematic attempt at balancing, we've just taken it down to SotP's 1 slot cost. I will STRESS that it's temporary though. Even with the amount that we've added, very little work has been done to pore over the data.
Similarly, we're using SotP's UI design for both the map icons and for the faction GUI layout. The challenge there is manually editing DotR's faction specific GUI in photoshop to work with the 'Window' settings/proportions of SotP's.
The actual absolute nightmare will be figuring out how to balance the radically different Infantry/planetary bombardment systems against one another.
It sounds very ambitious but very promising. It looks like you have a solid vision and plan on how to go about making this possible so you've got my support. Halo and Mass Effect have very similar Universes in terms of ship to ship combat, albeit with a slight tech gap here and there, seeing them come together is a dream!
