Originally imagined as a 2d platformer, the sequel to "Poharex: King of the Jungle" is now being remade as a Doom mod. Play as the heroic dinosaur, Poharex, and defend your primordial jungle home from an alien invasion, using the invaders' own energy source to power up your mighty roars!
For the campaign, I've been creating a number of custom keys, locks and puzzle items that don't correlate with the standard six keys of Doom, taking heavy inspiration from Hexen and Strife's use of such items to build immersion in the game world. At the same time, I also intend to use keys and puzzle items, as much as possible, to avoid the common design mistake of many a Doom and Hexen map, of relying on switches to perform functions on objects that are nowhere near the switch itself. In that context, it makes more sense to replace the switch with a key.
Just make sure when you do the switch and object thing to have it where you can tell what the switch affects so you can backtrack and find it
That's exactly what I've been doing so far. Switches are right next to what they're affecting, or at least within viewing range.
