Shouldn't the updater utility remove the need for updates like this?
Yes, but some still prefer this method.
We will probably only update the exe/zip files for major releases from now on.
Lets hope this download works, the other one wasn't an .exe, it just said it was a file.
I'm not sure how that could have happened. I just tested all the mirrors and they all offered the correct file.
Try picking a different mirror. At worst, you could always download it directly from our site: Community.overwatchmod.com

is the team randomized or can you choose to be only combine?
You can pick your side, but the OP (Overhead Player) is automatically selected from the group of players that "opt in" to play as OP.
All the servers are empty :(
