Besides the obvious need to add foliage to the buildings and the hill behind that fence, you might want to try changing these buildings to be more like shambles. Holes where stucco is removed, and you can see the wood, roof shingles damaged and a few on the ground. Rubble piled in corners, entire sides and corners of the buildings destroyed, with complementary "overgrowth" on everything. Might want to make a dead wall vines asset for use in the areas where the trees are dead. Additionally, why are all the windows pristine?

Just thought of a good thing to place on the hill, or in the hill area. Either a fountain, or a statue, overgrown, of course. Might want to include a cemetary area somewhere in the level too. It also bugs me that the fences are not decrepid in any way other than their textures.

For another map, you may want to consider a fire destroyed theme. With trees growing out of the long destroyed and blackened remains of buildings.

Depending on the time period you have this game set as, you may also want to begin to make other assets, like decrepid cars, building interiors (from sinks, cubbords and stairs, to light fixtures, pictures, TV's, and beds), designated walkways (wood or concrete sidewalks, roads, and stepping stones), and more plants (more tree, vine, fern, and bush models, species, and textures).

But, none-the-less, amazing job so far. It outclasses many Source mods visually already. Luck to you.

A big thanks for the critiques! Much appreciated.

As for what you see on this image: Most of these assets are either a place holder or a "will-be-edited" asset. The wall texture w/ windows is a valve stock asset, and is supposed to be changed real soon. This part of the village is near the end, so it lacks detail greatly.

You suggest making assets to use, and ofcourse I will and am, but I'm still in the process of getting the base done w/ some detail before I will create a good asset pack to use for most of it. The main thing I'm working on atm is textures, so I can get better visual results for the buildings and such, plus ofcourse, hold the theme.

Some buildings will have a very destroyed look, but most main buildings will be intact, but with much varying wear and tear. As for now, I havent started on the interiors, so it will come to that as soon as I've finished the map base.

As for the comments on the fence model, it's only one version of it so far, so I used it all over the place for now, as I said, placeholders ;)

But ofcourse, you comment on what you see, and I agree with much of what you said. It'll surely improve on the "destroyed-look" front!

Thanks again for the crit and comment!

Just great atmosphere! I really love it! I can imagine a little pumpkin field behind the fence where the small hill is and a scarecrow. Just if you have a a modler or can do it on your own. Good luck with it!

Description

Work in Progress.
The first part of the village.
It's still under heavy detailing, to make it very lush and "overgrown"!
