That is right! The Public version of Orion Beta 1.0 is officially released! After a week of Closed Beta testing through IGN & FilePlanet - we have made over 50 game changes ranging from performance, to weapons, optimizations and more! This release also adds 3 new levels to the mix!

Just a tip - if you don't see any game servers appearing - Un-check the 'Show Map List' option in the Find Servers menu. When this is checked it only allows servers to appear if they have players in it.

I'm getting this, too, whenever I try to join a server.
same =( ctd whne I join a server, I managed to get onto one once, but I alttabed, and when I went back inside I crashed again.
Pretty nice i must say, gettin much better fps but in the open map ive still got some issues. Keep it on !
The gun damage feels very awkward and I'm not just saying that because you think I can't shoot. I went 30 in 9 on a full server and it just feels odd.
You'd think an assault would do less damage then a support but be more accurate, and quicker and the support would have a bit more health and more damage but less accurate but the assault clearly does more damage from my playtesting. Also the shotgun feels like your throwing rocks at them. It can take 6-7 shots before you even kill someone depending on what their shields level is at.
This one should have been left in the cooker a little longer. Performance issues and the server crashes make playing it unbearable.
This is the first BETA release... BETA! Its going to have some issues still, report them, and next patch hopefully they get fixed, but as its a beta you cant assume it will be perfect... have some common sense guys

For a game inspired by quake, unreal tournament and tribes, I'm really disappointed in all the hitscan weapons. Projectile weapons were what made those games great, and surprisingly enough - besides grenades - there's not a single one in Orion.
Alien weaponry is coming in a future update. They only have human weapons in this Beta version. I'm not sure what they are, but one can always be hopeful.
em.. yea i go in to the game and when i try to connect to a server it downloads a map and then i hear the windowos (something is wrong sound) and it all stops my screen freazes and i have to restart the comp any ideas
yeah, i get that too, but i actually get to see the error screen and my comp doesn't crash, but still i get errors when i try to play.
You guys need to put this on steam so more people can learn about the mod. When insurgency did it awhile back they saw the number of players sky rocket. Great mod!
It won't be released on Steam until it's a full release, non-beta, mostly bug-free, and decently popular.
However, Pirates, Knights, and Vikings 2 is somehow getting on Steamworks, so good luck.

Probably because servers crash 3/4th's of the time.
because half of the ppl who want to play can't because it crashes when they try to join.
We are addressing this on Friday.
We think we found that nasty little bug about an hour ago.
Also going to be releasing 3 new maps upon this patch release.

We appreciate that. It gets frustrating sometimes only because I can see the finished product in my head but it's going to be sometime until you guys get to see that. However, these are betas and we do want your feedback as we do listen intently and this is, afterall, for you guys.
So keep posting them nasty little first release bugs and we will slap the crap out of them!

Wow...looks awesome! Just a thought, but how well of a gaming computer do you need to run this? Cause I get minimal lag playing Half-Life 2 on medium settings, and this looks like it would rape my computer.
great job getting a working beta out. I played it for an hour without any crashing. You did a something 90% of mod developers couldn't do, which is release a fairly stable first BETA. I hope it grows from here. Here's some feedback from me:
- Please add some kind of visual feedback or aural feedback when you hit a player. It's really hard to tell if I did any damage to my enemy. The blood sprites are very hard to see at medium - long range. Adding a sound effect that plays on the attackers machine (like Call of Duty) will really help. If you really want to impress, add some flinch animations to really give players that satisfaction of hitting someone.
- Please add a bit more jetpack juice. I think adding 50% more will allow players to really try some cool things with the boosting and probably won't cheapen the gameplay too much.
Really love the gun animations and sound f/x. You guys did a really good job in that area. It's very satisfying seeing them in action.. but again, if you could do the same for player damage, the game would be even more satisfying.

On top of these suggestions, I think it'd also be a good idea to tone down the red flashing when you take damage. Maybe damage-direction indicators would be better, but at the very least I feel the opacity needs to be set much higher. As it stands, getting into a close quarter shootout turns into a button mash because it becomes so difficult to see.
To 'treat':
That was actually supposed to be addressed in Public Beta 1.0 - n ot sure how it got left out. We removed ( or should I say, will be removing, as its still there ) the red-fill-annoying-shader and will be putting in directional indicators instead.

To address some of your questions / concerns:
01. We are going to be adding that little "bpsh" sound effect after the bullet hits the victim your aiming at ( ala Call of Duty / Quake 3 Online ). I love this effect.
We will also be doing other audio work such as muffled weapon fire sounds in the distance ( ala Day of Defeat Source ) and more!
02. Could you specify what you mean by the long range sentence?
03. Also 50% increase in terms of what? Just make it twice as much juice, increase in thrust, etc.
We are actually pretty happy with the Jetpack. Yes, it was inspired by tribes, I was a big Tribes 1 and Tribes 2 player.. but keep in mind this is the Source engine and are maps ( and overall gameplay) are significantly different and smaller. It's not really a 'main feature' its mostly used to access vantage points other classes can't reach as well as an offensive and defensive maneuver... however, I am curious to hear your thoughtsa bout this.
