Hello everyone.
OGaM returns again after 2 years, yes it has been so long and I would like to apologize for lack of communication of OGaM's development on any sites that I have it posted. As with anyone, life is full of changes and surprises and new games come out all the time.
But anyway, onto the main topic of this post. As everyone is aware, I have been mostly a single developer on such an ambitious project for whatever many years. In this time, I've successfully created new systems for OGaM and I suppose Black and White 2 overall.
We've seen the implementation of the original game's God AI system which still needs work but is becoming better with each release, scaffolding, creature coding and much more. But with so many systems comes a lot of work and promises were made. Unfortunately as a sole person on this project, I've been unable to complete the game fast enough to warrant release and in light of this, I wish to take OGaM in a new direction, something healthy for it's life and hopefully a boost to the community.
With this, I am pleased to announce that OGaM will become Open-Source. What this means for the game is that all current and future scripts of all the systems in place will be publicly uploaded to allow users, fans and scripters alike to view, modify and learn from. My hope is that whatever is left of BnW2's community can come together and breathe new life into the game through OGaM's systems. What this also means with this change is that I will be scrapping any story elements, landscaping, compiled audio, artwork and load screens because the work required is far too immense to handle alone.
Another thing to note about all this is that HandsomeMatt, whom you can speak to over at www.bwfiles.com has successfully been able to decode and publish the original scripts for Black and White 2's main campaign for every land from the tutorial right to the aztec homeland, and yes this does include creature select and epic miracles, so please check those out if are interested.
To close out, I'd like to thank everyone who has supported me for as long as I have actively worked on OGaM and appreciate your kind comments, patience and understanding and I'm hoping the future is bright for all of us.
If you have any comments, concerns, praise or anything of the sort about this change in direction, please do let me know. I'm happy with this change but pleasing the community has always been my first goal.
Thanks so much for taking the time read to this, hoorah to OGaM and hoorah to Black and White 2.
Peace out followers!
It's a shame that Black and White 2 wasn't a better game in general, considering how much heart and soul you're pouring in to it. :(
It's always sad when mods totally disappear, so it's nice to see that this will come out in some form.
I understand that multiplayer was scrapped, but was there any progress made at all that would be in the source somewhere? Not that I could implement it or anything, but I'd love to see how it was started.
Unfortunately no, I only ever worked on the scripts using the modding tools, any 3rd-party software attempting to add new hard code functionality was not tied to this mod.
So you give up?? :(
yea, unfortunately, I don't have the time or resources to finish such an ambitious project. That's not to say, there's definitely a few new systems that can be used in custom maps if ppl wish to do so.
Right now, my main focus is cleaning up those scripts to make them usable outside of OGaM's test land, which may take some time because I haven't done any scripting for a long time.
I hope you can clean them up properly to make it available for other people who might take hands on your project and take it further :)
I hope someone can take the mantle and finish the great work you started to revive this gem.
