Yup, you've got to disable JC and MJ12 Troop from the HDTP Options (and restart the game, unfortunately enough :|).

I also have extremely high expectations of this mod after playing the nameless mod. I feel like the later a mod comes out after the game comes out the better. This mod is coming out how long after deus ex was released? It's almost a 15 year aniversary mod

Why can't I set the resolution to 1920x1080? I have it set to that in the launcher but when the game loads it is 640x480 and 1600x1024 is the highest....

Reply Good karma Bad karma+3 votes
FastGamerr Author
FastGamerr - - 575 comments

Odd, haven't heard of that issue before (I was able to choose 1920x1080 just fine from the launcher, though). Perhaps you could ask Kentie about the issue? ( Kentie.net )

Reply Good karma+3 votes

Nono, I can select the resolution in the launcher just fine, but when the game actually loads it is not the resolution I've set. When I use the DeusEx original .exe it loads fine with the launcher's settings, it is only Nihilum's exe that won't load the set resolution for some reason.

Huh. No idea. :\

You could always trying copying the DeusEx.exe again (whether Kentie's launcher or not) and renaming the copy as fgrhk.exe.

And if that doesn't work, well, try opening the intro level of DXN (59_Intro) from DeusEx.exe and then starting a new game there (where you should be able to customize your character).

Thanks, I thought of opening the level manually but I didn't know what the name would be. That should work, I'm just reinstalling the game right now.

Do you have an enhanced DirectX/OpenGL renderer in use? If not, you should try it first. Cwdohnal.com

Also check your INI-files in your My Documents/Deus Ex folder.

Yes I do have those and tried both to no avail.... and I've checked My Documents and those .ini's have the same settings

This is really odd...

To anyone who is having issues with adjusting brightness - trying to change your rendering device ingame will just change the original Deus Ex.

To change DXN's rendering device, go to the Deus Ex directory: DeusEx -> fgrhk -> System then open the configuration file 'fgrhk'.

Here you can edit GameRenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice to another renderer (can be found further down in the file), for example GameRenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice, this worked for me.

Don't know if anyone else is having this issue but thought I'd just post it here.

It's probably the general "sometimes the file hosted at GameFront gets corrupted" issue that seems to be common on ModDB. Try other mirrors than the GameFront one here: Moddb.com

If that doesn't help, try downloading version 1.0 from this link: Shacknews.com and the 1.1 patch from ModDB (or Shack News once again: Shacknews.com )

When I try to run the game I get the following error message.

"Ran out of Virual memory. To prevent this condition you must free up more space on your primary hard disk."

I have over 555 gigs free on my hard drive. What could be causing this.

Tried the Page File Solution, set it to 8 gig, it did not work. Also tried from a completely fresh install which also did not work. I have 8Gigs of ram. And i checked task manager and nothing is eating up an inordinate amount of ram. The Crash is acting EXACTLY like the old TNM crash. One other thing it only happens when loading the Nihilim INI & Log I am running on Windows 7 64Bit if it makes any difference.

I have tried installing Kentie's EXE, DX10 Render, & the C++ Runtimes separately rather than through the installer. Same deal. The issue is unique to this mod. Its acting EXACTLY like the issue described in that thread. Crashing as soon as i launch the actual game.

Very odd issues (and your rig is better than mine for that matter!), and I'm all out of options :[

Aside from some straws that might help:

1) Have you tried running the fgrhk.exe under any compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3, 2000 etc.)?

2) Even though the installer is programmed to make a copy of your DeusEx.exe (in the DeusEx\System folder) and rename it fgrhk.exe, you could try doing the process manually.

3) Possibly even d/l Kentie's launcher straight from the source ( Kentie.net ) and rename the exe as fgrhk.exe in the DeusEx\System folder.

4) Kentie's launcher also makes copies of the INIs in My Documents, have you tried removing/editing those?

Really enjoying this so far, the design and gameplay is very much like Deus Ex, and the choice of locations so far has been quite nice and varied. Top job FastGamerr! :)

I've come across a few bugs so far (using 1.2), mostly DirectX10 lighting bugs but I won't mention those since that's not on your side. One bug I came across recently was when exiting XVA HQ and you proceed back down the Manhole, if you open and close that covering over and over you will be rewarded with 300 skill points each time. I'm sure this must just be how DX uses its triggers and events.

Ouch! Unlike the original game and Redsun2020, I really tried to avoid bugs like that in DXN (a certain similar credits bug is actually half-intentional). Doesn't warrant a full new update but I'll keep it in mind if I ever have to make one :] Glad to hear you've liked the mod in general, too!

I got around to finishing this over the last few days, and I enjoyed it very much. The overall somber tone helped with the Deus Ex feel, the areas were big and open (With some very sneaky hidden areas, nice!), the overall detail was quite nice (bar a few misleading doors and areas). The difficulty was good overall but did find it had a few spikes here and there, where it took a good while to get past enemies sneakily.
The length of the adventure is good, rivalling the majority of most AAA Games these days, but some of that may be just how Deus Ex is played ;)
The story was interesting and very conspiracy like, some good characters which unfortunately aren't revisited or seen again. I do think the game got a little bit Meta at some points but I guess that's what you were going for so no complaints on that!
The only thing that brought it down for me was Ingrams Voice. While the VO is good in some lines of dialogue, the majority of time I had to skip past conversations and read from the log, because the voice just started to grate after a while.

For me, Nihilum is up there with TNM, Zodiac and Redsun, is good fun throughout most of the adventure and has a brilliant soundtrack to boot!

(Sorry if this is a little long!)

There seems to be a problem with Kenties launcher's latest version and this mod. "Settings" and "Credits" buttons in the game menu are rendered on top of each other and the font of options is too big. I'm using version 5.3 of the launcher and D3D 10 renderer version 28. My screen resolution is 1900x1080. Other mods I am currently using are New Vision 1.5, Shifter and DX Enhanced. They work without problems with the base game. HDTP is however disabled because it causes problems with game menu.

Yup. You need to overwrite Vanilla Deus Ex's contents with GMDX's for it to work. There may be issues though (the only one I've heard of so far is the machine gun being semi-auto), as GMDX was not designed to work with other mods.

Yeah, you only need Deus Ex GOTY for this one. The DXN installer takes care of the rest. NV + HDTP are highly recommended, though (and need to be installed before DXN).
