After about 10 years in development (spare time) you can now test the new renderer for Freelancer in our mod. We currently have a public beta running to find remaining issues. You can find the download in our files section.
Once the testing is complete and the renderer is stable I plan to upload the of tools I wrote, their source code, a description of how to integrate it into your Freelancer mod and what the capabilities of the renderer are (it is a PBR renderer). Also I am thinking about a basic package for vanilla FL where everything is integrated so that you can start modding.

To open the new graphics settings menu press F10 (default key assignment).
Also currently you have to start a new character and it will be deleted in about a week (precaution for testing). After that the old characters are availlable again and you can safely start a new character if you want to.

Are there plans to allow the players use the HD mod on eh client side ?
Yes! The renderer will be free to use for every modder. That was the plan from the start. Give me some time to get the source code of the tools I wrote and documentation for the renderer ready.
