// WHAT IS IT:

MODplus {also spelled "mødplus"} is a "soup" of assets I have borrowed from other MODdb contributors, listed further in the "Credits" section. These assets were combined together in a hopefully tight manner, some of them altered with my own creativity, mainly when it comes to balancing.

The purpose of MODplus is primarily to enhance the difficulty level and combat feel, without drifting away from vanilla game experience. Work on this "soup" dates back to the early year 2017, as I took my time playing and balancing out the game the way I want to have it. Check out, see for yourself. Personally, I enjoy Doom^3 a lot more with the MODplus, to an extent that I can hardly imagine playing anymore without this addon, for the sake of a challenge.

Be sure to also check out the "advanced autoexec" addon, which originally had been made as an integral part of the MODplus, eventually to become a universal kind of light tier fix for modern WindowsOS systems to run Doom^3 with, in acceptable quality. The "autoexec" is furthermore quasi compatible with Quake 4 and Prey.

// HOW TO RUN IT:

Copy the extracted "MODplus" folder into your main "Doom 3" directory.

Create a shortcut to your "doom3.EXE" {or "dhewm3.EXE"} file, open the properties of a created shortcut and at the end of the target pathway, add:

+set fs_game MODplus

so that in the end, to have the target pathway described like that, for example:

C:\(...)\Games\Doom3\Doom3.exe +set fs_game MODplus

Open the modded game through the created shortcut.

Alternatively, use the "mods" section of the game menu and pick up "MODplus".


// DEFAULTS:

Key bindings set as default - if you want to set your own in the game menu, go to the "MODplus" folder and delete the "autoexec.CFG" file or the contents it has:

WSAD, movement
L-Shift, run
Space, crouch
E, jump
R, reload
~, fists
1-7, guns
F, flashligh [press again to return]
G, grenade [press again to return]
Q, soulcube [press again to return]
X, chainsaw [press again to return]
TAB, PDA/scores [press again to return]
T, talk to all
Y, talk to team

K, display or hide the frames per second counter
M, display or hide the HUD
J, display or hide the gun model
P, make a screenshot in remote 3840x2160 [4K HD] screen resolution
L, cheat light [taxing on the performance]


// CROSS-COMPATIBILITY

You may experimentally try to run this mod together with other mods or addons of choice, preferably maps. To do that, simply, throw the .PK4 file of MODplus into the folder of the other game tweak, having the MODplus file standing as the last one in the line of remaining .PK4 entities - sorted by name in an ascending order. The MODplus overwrites mainly characteristics of weapons, opponents, sounds and loot.


// HINTS:

As much as I have attempted to nerf the shotgunners with increasing the spread of their fire, decreasing their accuracy and maintaining their prohibition of shooting while running, they can still be a bit of an edgy opponent.


// PARDONS:

Pardon me the minimalistic style of this site, but the value of mod dwells rather in sheer gameplay.


// REASONS:

The reason this mod has been finally uploaded to MODdb, is that I wanted to show there are people who at least at certain point of time cared about Doom^3 and took initiative to make the game an even better experience for themselves. This is an honest record contributing to the base of contents for Doom^3 on MODdb.

Update:

I highly recommend checking out 'The Event Horizon' mod/addon, combined with 'modplus'. It is a great science-fiction experience.

For Linux-Ubuntu users on Dhewm^3, to make the sourceport see the mod, put it in the '/home/{username}/.local/share/dhewm3' directory - if already existing - and rename the mod folder all to lowercase letters. It seems the sourceport for the time being does not recognize uppercase letters properly. The mod will be displayed in 'mods' section - within the game menu - by the folder title.

NEWS:

Since the MODdb - due to some reason, perhaps the New Years Eve holidays or whatever else - has failed thusfar to authenticate the MODplus core file, making it for a two weeks delay already, I have switched the download service to GoogleDrive.

It has been nearly a week and I feel like I should do something, ask the MODdb on how does it go with verifying that file, but it would only create a further ticket, which they should probably answer after a month or something, so I will just keep waiting. Hype 0:1 MODdb.

EDIT:

Maybe they could introduce a "freemium" authentication, where making a certain "transaction" could enhance the speed of procedure, eh?
