Missing Information aims to recreate Valve's original Half-Life 2 storyline found in Raising the Bar.

Report RSS Sound system update

A few short videos showing off new features we have added to Missing Information. This is exclusive to our Steam release.

We developed a new weapon reverb effect for the purposes of increasing immersion, particularly during the Hyperborea chapter. In short, firearms now have different trail-off sounds in different kinds environments. Currently there are three environment presets: Indoor, outdoor and outdoor enclosed. It works by using a global reverb effect, which is set for the entire map in Hammer. Then, any areas which need different reverb effects can have a brush entity, called a func_reverbvolume, placed over them. Any relevant entity will then use the reverb volume's preset instead of the global one, as long as it is inside the volume.

The system supports the player, npcs, and explosions. And since the system is server-side, all entities use the correct reverb setting for their location, regardless of where the player is.

This will more than likely be in the initial Steam release of Missing Information (at least partially). The system itself is complete and all needed assets have been created, so the only thing that remains to be done is to implement it into the maps.

Currently we can't say when our next release will be out.

"Currently we can't say when our next release will be out."

How about in the year two thousand and never?

Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea for a mod, but it will never happen. Theres no cohesion or harmony amongst fans of the beta. Theres Russians and then everyone else, and everyone else can't stettle down for one minute and stop fighting. If you could be more like the guys who made Black Mesa, then you'd have a chance. But for now you guys should give up and do something more constructive, like gardening.

Were you late to the party or something?
The mod's had a few releases.

Usually closed modder groups like this don't *need* cohesion among the fans, which is why things like Raising The Bar exist. This group wants to do it their own way (albeit greedily from what i've heard?) and Raising The Bar wants to actually make a full HL game out of it.

That said, I feel this is going to be like every update before it, and it's just going to add some bug fixes, engine update from 2007, and MAYBE some new maps, but overall just a glorified, glossed-up Leak. Which is weird because they CLAIM they want to "recreate Valve's original Half-Life 2 storyline found in Raising the Bar."

I used to work on RtB and honestly it was quite the train-wreck with little to no organization and plenty of parts in their version of the storyline just didn't make sense or played out like some silly action movie. I quit, they had talented people on their team but it was just an unpleasant experience. They're trying to get their **** back together but it just wasn't worth it for me, plus I was being paid to work on something else anyhow. It's why i'm trying to get involved with MI, because I can animate, map, do weapon sounds, etc., and this project just feels a lot more, y'know.. Controlled, and respectful to the leak.

You are aware we've already made several release, right? This isn't about some big start-to-finish story line we're talking about.

These are great additions to the mod. Also, will there be a big focus on remaking old maps of the beta in the next update?

Tweaking existing ones, removing one (guess which!!!) and adding a new one. We'll do smaller incremental updates once the first stable build is on Steam.

with Greenlight gone and Steam Direct coming up, I hope this doesn't mess with the development or anything. I hope we get an update soon...
