Very nice i like it very much. Have a question. Can we use bow and spear on horse and if we can use spear is it going be like stabing animation or just swing like a sword ??? Keep up the awesome work, can't wait to play this.

No bows on horseback are planned, sadly. The engine is too limited to support that. In short, I can't think of any way we can "morph" the bow when you draw an arrow and let it loose. It's always a static object on the horse.

Spears will be in and have their own animations, probably stabbing and couching.

really nice, but i thought you were able to run them down. would be really cool to use in large battles :D

cavalry CHARGE!! and then perhaps spears that are able to stop the cavalry :D

You WILL be able to charge and run them down. It's only implemented for NPCs now. Player version will come soon ;)

If you look at the player's health, it won't end even if he takes damage. This was done only for the demonstration so don't worry ;)

I think it shouldn't be easy to kill a mounted enemy. But he should fall down, when you fight him with a spear!

They SHOULD seem helpless. Taking on a mounted adversary on foot is very tough. You essentially have four options: 1) kill him from a distance (tough but definitely what you hope you can do), 2) knock him of his horse and thus turn the odds in your favour, 3) sweep the horses legs with your sword (VERY tough and if you mess it up you are pretty much dead), or 4) use a spear (again much harder than it seems since misstiming the blow will mean that the horse's momentum will cause the horse to run you over or even land on you). These are the best options a dismounted oponent has against a foe on horseback cause killing him while he is riding past you is darn near impossible as his blow will almost certainly land first.

Mounted Archery is very hard to implement but we'll surely try it. Concerning spears, they will have their own piercing, knocking etc animations ;)

All our animations are either adjusted vanilla animations, or made from scratch by Middle Earth's Bane, one of our animators. No animations are ripped. Nothing in MERP is ripped, it's either from vanilla Oblivion, custom made by our team, or we asked for and received permission from the authors.

hey i'm wondering will you have some AI/NPCs in your next beta release? or are they going to come nearer the end? because i found in 0.2.4 that the map was pretty much dead without people... It looks great and feels fantastic, although Minas Tirith kept flashing pink when i was coming closer to it :S... also maybe you could do a bit like what oblivion had done previously and put map markers in for major cities? unless the lack of map markers is intended because either way i love it :)... Just a question of curiosity though, will we be able to participate in big battles like helms deep and pelennor fields (including siege of minas tirith) and some minor side battles (Amun Hen with Lurtz and his Uruk Hai) or will this just mention it happening but never actually let you go there?

AI and NPCs will be there. We are trying to finish Bree with all its interiors and population. If it doesn't make it in the upcoming Beta, then it will be released as a patch a few weeks later.

Map markers will be there, in the 1.0 release. We'll see if we manage to implement them earlier.

Yes you will be able to participate in big and small battles. If you don't manage to fight though, for any reason(ie. not being there) then you'll only hear the rumors.

Oh and by the way, Lurtz -> not going to happen. He wasn't in the books, he won't be in MERP. Ugluk will be the commander of the Uruk scouts ;)

Description

Preview of player mounted combat, also for vanilla Oblivion. Hits are made by blade-collision detection. It's still pretty raw, needs some polishing, but it gives you the idea behind it.
