A free unofficial expansion pack for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge, which retells, expands and continues the story of the original game. Enhanced with Ares DLL, Mental Omega strives to bring many new features to the game, including a 133-mission campaign, cooperative and a brand new faction: the Foehn Revolt.

Report RSS Mental Omega News Bulletin #24

We've been posting AI-only skirmish videos on our YouTube channel this week, now it's time to talk about some changes and additions shown in these videos.

This time we're keeping it short and sweet while we finish up details on the vanilla sides and almost approach the end of designing the first batch of features for Mental Omega's Side 4 - the Foehn Revolt.

Thanks to recent developments it is possible for me to become an observer of an AI-only game and with proper Mental AI Boosts an absolute mayhem has taken place. AI-only skirmishes are completely different than human ones, they're highly explosive and full of units and constant action, at least as soon as the War Factories are up.

There are some new features, changes and details we haven't shown before in these videos. What needs to be addressed first, is that the economy booster buildings in Mental Omega (Ore Purifier, Industrial Plant and Cloning Vats) all function as a single Oil Derrick, which is a thing that was introduced back in the 2013 release. The only difference now is that thanks to Ares DLL the money those buildings provide is visually presented in the form of small animation. Foehn's ecobooster building will have its unique function but also act as a single Oil Derrick too.

The not-so-short version of the list of recent additions & changes can be read on MentalOmega.com.

Stay tuned for more updates!

I wonder what's Foehn ecobooster building can be. A building to decrease costs already belongs to Soviets, a building to increase income belongs to Allies, a building to increase manpower (or, halve the buildtimes and costs for infantry) belongs to Epsilon. So, vehicle/aircraft cloning facility for Foehn, for the sake of symmetry? :D

Dunno, Foehn is going to be the most elitist and expensive of factions, so I expect a some sort of "recycler" that returns part of money spent on unit upon completion of construction.

That's an idea, sure. Inb4 "Nano... things Generator" as the economy booster building.

Would it be possible to have a twist on the clone vat, where a guardian drone is produced with each unit which follows and heals your units, maybe uncontrollable,
Or maybe a hunter seeker function - periodically releases AI remote units to attack your enemies, not explosive though

My Guess is their ecobooster structure gives a small amount of money per enemy unit destroyed based on its value. kinda like a bounty system.

You may be right actually, since this feature did exist in MO 2.0 and newer versions of Ares aim to include the bounty logic as well. And it wasn't mentioned to be given to any of vanilla factions, so yeah, I guess your assumption can be the closest one to truth.

It's kinda obvious about this but i think the change to abrams tank firing its lasers and main cannon to vehicles and structures should have been mentioned in News Bulletin #24 under the allied section no? Considering this kinda is a buff to abrams tank. The cost is still 1400(1450 old) in new version BR2?

while you're polishing AI please make it prefer to capture neutral buildings over destroy, at least with oil derricks it's much desired.
