Men of War is probably the best ww2 strategy game on the market, but it lacks most of all one thing: a skirmish mode where you can have huge battles against an AI player. It is a shame that you have so many units available that you can rarely use in the campaigns. Battlefield mode is a unique skirmish mode, more advanced than those you can find in Assault Squad, whose objectives are the following: • Create a challenging single player skirmish with a great variety of battles. • Build a sandbox to allow inexperienced players to set up their own scenario quickly given a prebuilt map.

Japanese Empire is the new upcoming faction for this mod. The Japanese Empire won't be able to deploy medium or heavy tanks, because in WW2 they focused on the production of good aircrafts and battleships, but they will ALWAYS have acces to air support units.

Japanese Empire, as the Commonwealht, will always have access to all the units available, independently on the chosen support. The main feature of Japan is that, besides standard support, they have Cateogry Supports dependent on the chosen support command. Category Supports are support abilities available for some unit categories (Infantry, Infantry Support, Artillery and Light Vehicles). For example in the Infantry menu you will be able to chose the Observed Artillery ability, which allows Recon Squads to auto target the spotted enemies with artillery strikes.

Another features is that Japanese Heavy Engineers can build heavy fortifications, such as bunkers and Heavy Naval Guns.

Since Japan can't deploy medium or heavy tanks, the will always have access to air support: in the Air Support Menu you will be able to use the following support abilities:

  • Heavy Weapon Drop: A crate of heavy weapons (a Type 99 AT Rifle, 2 Type 99 LMG's and 1 Type-1 HMG) will be dropped at the targeted location.
  • Zero Strafing Run: A Zero fighter will target the designated location with its machineguns.
  • Air to Air Strike: A Squadron of Zero fighters will destroy any enemy plane at the targeted location.
  • Bomber Squadron: A Squadron of Zero bombers will attack the designated target with their deadly weapons.

The following Support Commands will be available (subjected to changes):

Fortress Support:

  • Heavy Weapon Replacements: Every 3 men lost you will receive a Type 1 HMG or a Type 94 mortar.
  • Naval Artillery: You will be able to build a 305mm Naval Battery emplacement.
  • Medical Supplies: All your infantry units will be completely healed.
  • Tank Reserve: A Chi-Nu medium tank will be deployed on the battlefield for defensive operations.

Last Stand Support:

  • Suicide: If one of your soldiers will be close to the enemy he will kill himself detonating his personal explosives destroying everything in the blast radius
  • Entrenchment: All the friendly infantry units will hold the position and won't be controllable by the player for 60 seconds, but they will gain a health bonus (+50%) and any visible enemy unit will be targeted with mortar shells.
  • Feign death: Some of the dead soldiers were feigning death and will be replaced by living units.
  • Zeal: While zeal is active, the enemy soldiers, intimidated by the enemy resolution, aggressivness and devotion, have a chance to surrender and run out of the battlefield.

Imperial Navy:

  • Naval Infantry: An amphibious infantry squad of the Imperial Navy will be deployed to the targeted location (equipped with wire cutters, mine detectors and TNT).
  • Chi-Ha 120: A Chi-Ha Light tank mounting a 120mm Naval Gun will roll in to support your troops with artillery fire.
  • Kamikaze: A Zero fighter will crash to the designated location, causing a big explosion due to the heavy ammo stored inside.
  • Heavy Naval Barrage): A nearby battleship will shoot a heavy artillery barrage over the area for 60 seconds.

Jungle Warfare:

  • Jungle Infantry: A close combat infantry squad which had previously infiltrated the battlefield, reveal itself (6 men with 5 Type 100 SMG's, 1 Type 99 LMG anti tank grenades each).
  • Tunnel Network: An underground tunnel network will allow you to move 15 random infantry units at the targeted location.
  • Corpse Booby Trap: While this ability is active any enemy approaching a dead body will explode.
  • Anti tank Trap: An anti tank trap will be placed at the designated location. Any enemy tank closing the trap will trigger it and make it explode.
