Men of War is probably the best ww2 strategy game on the market, but it lacks most of all one thing: a skirmish mode where you can have huge battles against an AI player. It is a shame that you have so many units available that you can rarely use in the campaigns. Battlefield mode is a unique skirmish mode, more advanced than those you can find in Assault Squad, whose objectives are the following: • Create a challenging single player skirmish with a great variety of battles. • Build a sandbox to allow inexperienced players to set up their own scenario quickly given a prebuilt map.

I'm back into action after I've been real busy in real life. I will recap the mod status here.

After almost a year since the last update, I'm back at working on the mod. Currently I've reworked the AI for Germany, USA, and Commonwealth. I'm working on the Japanese Empire AI and I should complete it for tomorrow.

Here's a list of changes:

  • The new AI behaves like a human player (more or less), it will pay for its reinforcements and choose what to use according to what you deploy on the battlefield, rather than spamming stuff like the old one.
  • The main complaint of new players was that the AI was too challenging even at easy levels. Now you can select the difficulty level from the menu where you choose also your nation and the support command, just before starting a battlefield map. There are currently 5 difficulty levels: beginner, easy, normal, hard, and insane. In begginer, and easy levels the AI has a malus in resource gain, and won't use support operation, or use them less frequently. In normal the AI has neither a bonus nor a malus in resource gain, and it will use support operations more frequently. In hard mode the AI has a small bonus in resource gain and will use support operations as long as it can afford them. In insane mode the AI has a huge bonus in resource gain and will use support operations just like in hard mode.
The resource bonus is needed because the AI cannot build sandbags or minefields as the player can do (and I'm afraid it is not scriptable in a general purpos scenario like battlefield mode), so it is there to give you a better challenge. Thats the best I can do.
  • The AI tries to counter your gameplay, that is, if you are deploying a lot of tanks it will try to counter them with AT guns and tanks, favouring these categories. If you are focusing on infantry it will try to counter it with HMGs and mortars, or artillery.

I think I will be able to release a new version of the mod containing the AI update at the end of the month. Stay tuned and thanks for your support.

This makes me very happy! But you should totally do it for AS2 now!

Of course, but I want to have a full working version with a decent AI before converting it to AS2. So the steps are: 1. Release this version for MoW. 2. Convert the mod for AS2. The conversion will probably require a couple of months though, since MoW config files are not compatible with AS2 config files since they have changed all the macros (I would have to export all the MoW config files to make them work in AS2).

Ok I've completed the Japanese Empire and the USSR AI as well. Now I have to configure the map and debug a little.
