Hey guys! It's been a while since I've posted anything about my mod so I've taken the time today to discuss about it!

Markiplier Mod's Pre-Alpha Release Progress & More

Hey guys! It's Mario and I haven't posted much about my progress with the Pre-Alpha release, which is what I'm going to do right now!

So as of right now, progress has been doing more than great! I have added some new weapons (not custom, but CS:S), very close to completing 2 maps, recolored HUD, and of course some combine action! If your wondering how much I've completed, I would say I'm around e - p complete with the pre-alpha release. But remember that this is PRE-ALPHA. Many people are confused on whether my mod is a "joke mod" (which is not), a "Half-Life 2 campaign", or a "mod with a boring story" which I really cannot blame you. The reason why I'm getting all this is because my mod is a mystery to the ModDb community. Nobody has any clue on where this mod is going. But why? I haven't explain much about my mod because I would feel as if I've given the player already too much on what the mod was going to be. I would feel as if it would spoil the in-game experience when you do play my mod, because you would are already know what you are going to expect. So how are you going to know if the mod's going to be good or not? You'll just have to trust me ;)
Now to those who are brand new to the steam, valve, and half-life 2 mod community, this is NOT going to be a standalone game. Now what does that mean? well first of all, it's a mod and not a game of its own, meaning you'll need to buy some games through steam in order for the mod to run properly. second, What are the games you need? You will need to own these 2 following games and must be bought through steam.
* Counter-Strike: Source and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
Now your done with spending money! When you've finished playing my mod, be sure to play these games because Valve has put a lot of effort and heart into these games and they would sure love some new players to join the Steam community!
Last but not least, you will need to install a tool from your tools menu on your steam interface which is Source SDK 2013 Singleplayer (free of charge).

Don't worry guys! The mod is very close to completion. Just be a little bit more patient and eventually you'll see it on the downloads page at my ModDb page!

What a shame!!
Because i don't own CS:GO and i also will not buy that one simply because i never play MP games or mods, i am a real SP fan so to speak.
Having said that i do think you also will need at least a HL2 game or a ep 1 or 2 when this is a HL2 mod. So people will need 3 games for this to work, and that will mean that a lot of people will not be able to play it. Simply because they don't own all of them. But, that is a choise you are ofcourse free to make, and this i really mean.
Its just, as a fellow modder, i think it is a shame because with this you cut the download amounts back of your mod.

Still, will keep following your project here as i already did.

I do apologize Leon for having to buy multiple games, but as of right now there is nothing I can do to make custom weapons or models since the pre-alpha is meant to be a simple release with not a lot of customization (starting out small). I hope later in the future I'll be able to grab a team and make some custom content for my mod, so those who don't own both games won't have to buy them.

I know it sounds really dumb to buy 2 games to play only one mod, but I'm assuming many players already have cs:go and cs:s since It's a large community. If things don't work out well, then I'll do everything I can to fix this problem. Thanks for the feedback man :)

Your right, its a large Source community and indeed do most people own those 2 games. So most people will be able to play the mod.

About not be able to use custom content right now, maybe you know i am modding (mapping) to and about to release a new mod. ANd i have the same problem, i am not able to make myself new models etc, and also don't have a team for it. But, there is a great other way to get a ton of custom content, for free. And that is to use "stuff" from other people who do make these things and then put them on line for others to use in there mods. This way i still was able to put about 3 GB of new content in to my latest mod. Great sites for getting stuff like this, for source, are;

on gamebanana you can find tons of new models and skins, etc. Its a great place to start with. Ofcourse do you sometimes need to ask permission and always give credit to the owners and or makers, but that is ofcourse not a problem.

Thanks for the advice! Ill see what i can do, because i already thought of the idea of using other people's content from sites like gamebanana, but at the same time I didn't want my mod to be filled with content not made by me. But i don't have any options left, so i guess i will have to borrow and ask for a few "stuff" from other fellow modders.

By the way, i would love to try out your new mod! Give me the name and I'll keep an eye out for it ;)

Yes, i know what you mean. I also would have loved to be able to make everything myself for my mod but that is simply impossible. Making a mod would then take at least another 4 years extra, and that is simply to silly for words. So, as leveldesigner myself i just HAVE to rely on other people there work, and there is nothing wrong with that. Most if not all of those people do make those things so they are used in mods.
