Report RSS Map Lab #4 - Think Tank Results

The results are in for our fourth Map Labs competition, asking mappers to send us puzzle maps!

Posted by on

Another month, another Map Labs competition. This time was Think Tank, a competition asking entrants to create brain-busting puzzle maps.

Running from the 10th to the 31st of May, this competition was the first of its kind in Map Labs, in that it requested a very specific type of gameplay from mappers. While we expected little turnout, the number of entries still exceeded our expectations in number and quality. This competition has 10 entries and 1 bonus entry.

In third place is "Laser Treatment" by Strontvlieg. A journey through a zombie-infested facility that just so happens to be full of deadly lasers! These lasers are used as both tools for dispatching foes and as obstacles, making it a fun back-and-forth of playstyles.

In second place is "Crown Shyness" by Ian 'Idolon' Spadin. This map, set in a beautiful hedge garden, has players learn the mechanic themselves in the first area. If you're unfamiliar with self-teaching puzzle games, this one might be a little difficult for you. The bonus map in this competition is also a sequel to this map, so check that out!

The first place winner for Think Tank is "Water is Cold" by RockyB. Dissatisfied with the temperature of your bathwater, you enter a grayscale world of gears, gates, and perspective. Though not very mechanically consistent, it's very unique in art style and has fantastic level design.

Here is Think Tank's full score sheet:

The quality of these maps is impressive, even if not all of them nail the theme. This competition managed to exceed our expectations in every way. While you wait for details of our next competition, why not follow us on Twitter and join our Discord? Thanks for reading.

It's fantastic to see these things still going strong despite Phillip's sudden departure.

However, I do hope the next one is more action oriented ;)
