Story:
The yet to be named protagonist is recruited by the G-man and put on the same mission Dr. Freeman was sent to complete in half-life 2. The protagonist is gifted with 'abilities' to help him in his way to free the people from City 17 from the tyrannic oppression of the combine.

Technical Details:
The mod will include added features to accommodate character progression and other rpg-like elements. We will use the maps of Half-Life 2, but we will modify them to add in other items, weapons and collect-able items.

We will try to release as often as possible with mini increments in version and content. We will start out by modifying the weapons one at a time and letting you play-test them as fast and as often as possible.
The first versions of the game will not include the final maps, but we will give you a play-test map to have fun on while you wait.

As stated in the comments section of this mod, we will do small incremental updates until we reach our goal, this will allow you to play a little as we develop, and allow us to have testers to improve the overall experience of Magic or Science. What do you need to expect from the first version?

We started working from the base Half Life 2 code, so what are the changes we've made so far?


Alpha v0.1 Changelog:


HUD Overhaul:
This is not the final version, it will improve as we go along. More info in the "Images" section.

Pistol change:
New ammo has been added, explosive & burning. Press secondary fire on the pistol to change between ammo-types. ( Selected ammo shows in console)

Health-System Change:
We've implemented some changes towards the health-system of Half-Life 2. The health system still works with health-packs like you're used to, but there's a slight change: Health Regeneration. But it's not active all the time, we're working with a threshold, if the health is above the threshold regeneration is activated, if it goes below it is deactivated again. This is the prevent the player from dying from 'Poke' damage.

Leveling & Experience:
Killing enemy npc's will grant the player experience, when the player gains a level several changes occur to stats. The simplest being max-health increased by 5.( Currently the stats are only health-related. If you gain a level the changes are displayed in the console. )
Note: There is no level-cap, at least not set by us, you can level-up until it creates overflow on the value which will cause wrap-around, in effect making it go to the lower minimum which is negative. We recommend you stop killing npc's if you reach level 2147483647. (Yes, this is not a typo.)

Several skill-based changes:
Changes were made to health and damage values, some enemies will have more hp then usual,...



I started the game for the first time, what now?
When starting a new-game in Magic or Science, you will have 2 choices: Dev_Test or Half-Life 2 Story.

Dev_Test is the map that is displayed in some screenshots in the "Images" section. It's a map with some combine soldier spawners, which are enabled if you press the gray button underneath the spawn area, go through the plasmashield-styled airlock using another button and to the left you'll find the spawn area. We recommend you to use cheats in this section as you'll run out of ammo fast.

Half-Life 2 Story will allow you to run through the story of half-life 2 story ( without the episodes ) with our engine, but only if you bought it and have it installed.

We will try to prerelease as soon as possible. And update in small increments, mostly to get feedback from the community to improve the overall quality of the mod.
