In answer to ... "who knows maybe the expansion version has all and the other has only whats finished" ... both versions are complete. Again sorry for the confusion.
well thanks for the information later i'ma buy both expansions (my dad owes me money what can i say i'm 13) anyways can't wait for the next versions i love the new planets and star they pwn *** (though i recommend putting on auto build for the binary planets or making the grav well larger) and so good bye for now mates (also if you have vanilla sins pm me if you want to play a game with me)

Thanks for asking ... sorry about the confusion. I'll have to make it clearer on the summary page.
To your question - "SoaSE Maelstrom the Expansion" mod is the same as the "SoaSE Maelstrom" mod, except for one slight difference, Dreadnought Capitalships. The biggest difference between "SoaSE" and "SoaSE Entrenchment" is the inclusion of Starbases. Can you see where I'm going with this.
Now what is a Dreadnought? A very large and powerful Capitalship that once researched and is at level 6 or beyond can be transformed into a "Starbase"... i.e it dumps its phase engines (cannot leave the gravity well as a "Starbase") but doubles its firepower, hulls, shields ...
All six races have Dreadnought Capital ships. Just bear in mind that the Dreadnought is nowhere as versatile as the Starbase in SoaSE Entrenchment. The Dreadnoughts have all new abilities and they certainly change game play!! Also, the Dreadnought Models for the three original factions are the Models of the Starbases ported from Entrenchment. It's fun to see a 'Starbase' go travelling down phase lanes.

If you are having problems with the mod, such as it crashing the game, try lowering the graphics settings. I learned that the hard way.
