Maelstrom - YES YES YES!
This mod looks too good to be true!
I've downloaded and installed the mod (copied the files to my mod-folder) - but it won't work...
Whenever i try to enable this mod after disabling any and all others i get a number of errors (fx "error in line 53 in file gameplay.constants") with the choice of skip, skip all or break and whatever i do there's like 2500 errorboxes. Once these have been dealt with (skip, but i've tried the others as well) i get a minidump and the game crashes... What am i doing wrong?
It is a a very straightforward installation, my best guess is you have not copied the mod correctly. There is a link called ...
"Additional Installation & Release Notes"
in the download section (see Description, read more +)
I've read that part as well and tried reinstalling a couple of times - maelstrom still won't work on my entrenchment.
I've tried installing it on vanilla sins though - and it seems to be working just fine...
THIS MOD IS GREAT!!! But kinda bummed out it won't work on my entrenchment.
This mod is not for Entrenchment!
I'm currently working on the Entrenchment version which should be ready in a few weeks.
There is a beta version of the mod at the Maelstrom "Official Page", but be warned it is not complete and crashes about 30 mins into the game if you play the following scenarios ...
1. two or more Replicators or
2. two or more Norlamins
Well, that would explain just why i can't get it to work xD... (guess i'm just assuming entrenchment - silly me)
I'll try the beta - because i can - and until then i'll keep playing the modded vanilla. Again, fantastic mod!
Sorry for double posting but I'v Resently noticed I began to stop having problems....well I still do but not has suckish with the mod, However when I close Sins or when Im going back to main menu with the mod I get Minidumps. I also wish to say the Trade Alliance pwns and they are so easy to get a wtf pwn armada with :)
"However when I close Sins or when Im going back to main menu with the mod I get Minidumps" ... yes this is typical behavior. I believe this is happening because the mod has exceeded the max number of texture files! When I'm optimizing the mod I'll look into it further. The Entrenchment version does not exhibit this behavior.
Regarding the TradeAlliance, yes they are a bit overbalanced. In fact all the new races are over balanced. I'll re-balance as we go along. Have any suggestions?

Hi Elite222,
Your PC specs look good, i.e Dual Core, dedicated video card. However, you are light on RAM (i.e1GB). Which means you will have to turn down your effect settings. I would recommend 2GB RAM, as on the typical settings Maelstrom (on XP) requires about 1.6 GB.
Recommended Mod Setup: Effects Settings
1. Planet : Detail - Medium
2. Ship : Detail - Medium, Extras - Medium, Bump - Low
3. Building : Detail - Medium, Extras - Medium, Bump - Low
4. Show Planet Elevators - Off
Thats what I have, but thats my home computer :)
nvm i found the problem i missed read the readme and puted it in soaseE XD
the readme was word for word as in mod called "SOA" so i kinda skiped the loction part. my bad :) btw it doesnt only look great the mod is great hope you keep the good work.
Glad you got it going!
It will improve as time goes on.
thanks that helps alot due the "original" still does not work when i downloaded it some basic files seems to be missing im not sure if its a problem with the download due...
im almost done downloading the expansion so ill check it out it seems a great mod :)
can you please put some info on how to install because the original alone does not work.
and do i need the original with the expansion ? or only the expansion if i do need them together than mind explaining?
and you did not put any readme not that i saw anywhere.
btw the "original just frizzes when i load it.
SoaSE Maelstrom and SoaSE Maelstrom Expansion are two separate and complete mods.
To install is simple ...
1. Extract the contents of the zip file to your sins mod directory
2. Start SoaSE and in the options submenu select the mod from the list of available mods and activate it.
3. If Maelstrom does not apear in the mods list then you have copied to the wrong directory. Please try again.
If you still have problems let me know ...
