As much as i love your mod and think the new races are well made, it bugs me so much that the voices are all the same bland speech. No way you could get some actual recordings to make them sound more distinct from one another?

Do you realize how many voice overs there are ... only way to make them better is using a number of voice artists ... if people contribute ($) I would consider it

I'd donate. It's practically a new game we are getting for FREE. Throwing a couple bucks your ways seems to me a good deal.

there is no function to make things turn. at least not without a LOT of work, I still dont know how he got the Trade alliance's colony capital midsection to turn.

For those who are have minidump issues, trying lowering the "Graphics Effects Settings" to ...

* Planet : Detail - Highest
* Ship : Detail - Highest, Extras - medium, Bump - Low
* Building : Detail - Highest, Extras - medium, Bump - Low

The dumps are happening consistently when I move a fleet of about 18 ships to a dwarf planet, roughly 1 hour 22 - 30 minutes into the game. Checked multiple times, sat there to see if it was just time causing the dump then moved to a dwarf planet and bam, dump. It's odd, since in this same game I've colonized 3 dwarf planets already..

Was a Random Huge (multi), cause you get the experience the new planets and what-not better through that, I figure it's a problem with there being just too much computing going in to the AI or something along those lines. I gave it a few more tests with a bit more patience, it would continuously minidump between 1 hour 22 - 30 minutes as I said before and I wouldn't have to move a single unit.

This game had;
Myself as TEC Loyalists
1 Normal Fortifier Vasari Rebel
1 Normal Aggressive Vasari Loyalist
2 Hard Aggressive TEC Rebels
1 Normal Aggressive Trade Alliance Rebels
1 Hard Researcher Advent Rebels

I started a new game with a Random Large (multi) with only 4 other factions as opposed to 6, kept them all at normal difficulty, and had the fleet sizes setting at normal size, and I went through that game flawlessly without a single mini-dump, albeit a butt load of lag due to my fleet of 200+ ships planet hopping and destroying multiple pirate bases. XD

Simply put, I think the AI could be causing the dumps, that or too many AI's inadvertently cause the RAM use to shoot through the roof through computing their building pathing, ships pathing, research pathing, and/or combined through all 6 factions + myself having a decent sized fleet each making the game run in overtime to try and handle all of our fleet sizes and movements.

Also, I forgot to throw this out there, but the capital ship that is capable of boarding and if the boarded ship is destroyed it comes under your control; I intentionally wanted to see if I could board and control one of the several pirate constructors (Factory, Building, Defensive) and I successfully gained control of the Factory and Defensive ones. Is that intended? They had two abilities named "no string," each having one that was 9999 seconds long, I believe the factory one had a 666 seconds long second ability and the defensive one had a 1000 seconds long second ability, I managed to use the short ones twice and I was supplied with at least 4 Pirate Corsair, 2 Pirate Reapers, and 4 Pirate Bloodletters (if thats not the name I forgot the other frigate type ship they get). I waited to use the 9999 second cooldown ability and it just auto-destroyed both the constructors I had boarded to control and also gave me what I mentioned above.

this is correct ... an attempt to make the pirates, on new planets, grow over time.

I test on single-random huge maps and I have not had a problem.
Possibly one of the Maelstrom maps has a bug ... that is why I asked about the map you are playing.
The most common reason for mini-dumps is due to the game+mod using 2GB of RAM. RAM usage is related to graphics and the number of units (ships, planets, structures, abilities) in use. The easiest way to reduce RAM usage is to lower the graphics effects setting.
So regarding your comments ... you are on the right tract. Either reduce the graphics effects settings or play smaller maps.

PS: all this assume that your PC meets recommended specifications for Rebellion. Of course as Maelstrom doubles the size of the game, the recommended PC specifications are naturally tightened. If you have a 64 bit operating system and more than 4GB of RAM you might like to try the 4GB patch that comes with the mod.

Currently W7 64b OS with 8 gigs of ram and a AMD Radeon HD 6800 series card.

I also lowered graphics to the lowest possible and that same save had minidumps in the same amount of time.

And I wasn't aware there was an additional patch that came with the mod, I'll have a look.

Also, any estimates on R4 for Rebellion with the Replicators? I'm lookin' forward to stomping all life in the cosmos out with their Titan :P

"AMD Radeon HD 6800 series card" how much VRAM?
"Also, any estimates on R4 for Rebellion with the Replicators?" ... 1-2 weeks. The release of the 1.1 patch for Sins slows me down

Thanks for the game, it very cool...

However the victory condition is not good:
- For Flagship Victory, Trade Alliance got TEC Flagship while Norlamin got Advent's
- For Research Victory, there is no victory research for TA and Norlamin
- Don't know about the diplomacy victory, haven't try.

Trade Alliance cannot purchase level for their capital ships.

Hope these can solved in newest release, along with release of Replicators.

Excuse me, but i found some errors in this version...
1. Replicators dont seem to be there in the game, i cant seem to find them anywhere!
2. A research technology for Norlamins in technology tree is named just as "string not found" with description as "string not found".. can this be fixed, please?
3. While playing as Norlamins, after about 45 minutes in game i get a CTD no matter what i do... It is always there. My system supports Sins properly so could you please explain why this is happening? It seems
I cant play any match for more than 45 minutes... :(
..... now come to think of it, is the crash related to the size of the fleet?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
soase-maelstrom Author
soase-maelstrom - - 2,620 comments

1. R3 does not have Replicators, R4 will
2. can you be more specific, which faction? where in tree?
3. reduce graphics effects settings, the crash is related to the RAM used by game, at approx 2GB usage the game will crash.

Reply Good karma+1 vote
lordzeromih
lordzeromih - - 39 comments

1.That was my mistake...
2.Normalin Loyalist faction, in research, Technology tab, in Rolovon, near beginning of the tree
3.Ummm, i reduced graphic settings to minimal and yet again i am getting the crash... In contrast, your R9 diplomacy expansion works flawlessly, even keeping all the settings at highest, including "bump". I have 4 GB of RAM, win 7, x86 processor... is their no way for me to play Maelstrom rebellion mod? Cuz it is just too great to put aside.....

sry for repost, i forgot to log myself in :P

Thanks for item 2.

Now with regards crashing in Rebellion, you are a little short of RAM, but that still should be ok. What graphics card do you have?

Fir the other series of Sins i.e Diplomacy, Entrenchment and original ... they all have smaller RAM footprints! Also I did a lot of optimization on those versions to fit them.

lordzeromih - - 39 comments

Hmmm..
I have ATI Radeon 6770 HD.
I think it should be more than enough for sins...
I really hope you optimize the latest version of Maelstrom for Rebellion too... :P If that is the only way for me to enjoy this mod :D

And..
I do understand this would have already taken a heavy toll on you to create such a diverse mod, but as die hard Homeworld fan, I cannot help but think about how awesome it would be to have Hiigarans as a race... I mean just think about it!
LOL you could add the Pride of Hiigara as the Titan for them!
Do consider this if you ever decide to add one more civilization to your fabulous Maelstrom Universe!

So, 4 GB of RAM, win 7, x86 processor and ATI Radeon 6770 HD sounds as if they should work with Rebellion. You are not running a dual monitor?? Make sure you have the latest drivers for the 6770.

The optimization will help fit the Replicators for R4. Not sure if it will give additional overhead.

I would like to add an additional race ... but things are tight

Now this is weird. I played the R3 for something like 5 hrs and with 10 player map size as TEC and the game ran beautifully, without a single CTD. It seems the inherent races are much more stable than the added ones... I will try again with Norlamins...
On a sidenote, eagerly wating for R4.. :)

If you play with only one race then the RAM footprint is smaller than playing with multiple races ... stability for Maelstrom is a matter of RAM and not races, i.e new races are not buggy.
It also depends on the type of race you set up, defenders tend to build more structures and hence take more memory in-play
