Lost Industry: Origins 2021 December Update

Hi, I'm Peredice!
First of all I want to thank everyone who was concerned about

the future of the mod, it's much appreciated.

line

Past: What happened?

Long story short I lost motivation because of a few things;

  • I had a creative burnout, I couldn't map anything in hammer and no good ideas came to mind.
  • Last update to the AGS (Actually Good Source) engine is discontinued. Its current version is really unstable with a lot of bugs in it, and I will no longer use it to further develop my projects.

Present: What's the deal now?

I started working on the project again, but this time in MAPBASE courtesy of XBLAH's Modding Tool and I'm determined to finish it at all costs! Right now I am also fixing up Lost Industry 2's maps and a re-master Lost Industry 1.

Me and White_Red_Dragons started working on a source engine branch called AROH (A Ray Of Hope), an official collaboration between Astria Porta and Lost Industry.

AROH currently supports;

  • PBR (Physically Based Rendering) it also supports Model Lightmapping
  • SSAO (Screen space ambient occlusion) is also implemented

Future: What's next?

I am planning to do the maps for LI1 and LI2, then finish up LI:O and release them
in ONE mod, so you will get to experience all 3 chapters in one mod!

With the AROH engine, we are planning to implement Volumetric Light and CSM (Cascaded Shadow maps) at some point in the future.

Questions and Answers!

Q: Does it mean I will not get to experience the game with those beautiful graphics AGS has to offer?
A: No! Once finished I will upload the AGS version to ModDB as well, but be aware that it is in a broken state, and the support for it is discontinued.

Q: Release when?
A: Next year... fo sho'

Q: If AGS is discontinued why aren't you open-sourcing it and release it to the public so other people can create their mods?
A: Simple, I had never been given the source of any AGS versions, I don't have it.

Q: Why hasn't AGS been worked on?
A: Devs got bored, moved on, want to work on something else, have no patience to finish. Not sure.

Q: Where can I see more things about the development of the mod?
A: You can join Ikarus Software's Discord server or follow us on VMC (Valve Modding Community) Discord channel where they have a room dedicated to upcoming mods such as Lost Industry.

Credits:

Huge credit goes out to;

  • Thexa4 PBR Shader Repo
  • Totterynine for Lightmapping implementation in the PBR Shader
  • DmitRex for the SSAO implementation
  • White_Red_Dragons for helping me write the article
  • Trivvy for grammar checking

Stick with me, and let's finish this journey together.
Thanks for reading, until next time! :)

Lost Industry: Origins 2020 October Update

Hi, Peredice here!
It's been two months since the last update here on ModDB, let's get right into it.

line

Map progress

I'm happy to announce that the progress on the maps is going smoothly so far!
Only the canals level and the last map need to be finished and we are ready to release.
That might take a while though because I'm the only one working on the levels.
Upon the release of Lost Industry: Origins will be a big bundle of surprises as well
stay tuned for that!

line3

Switching engine version

On Sáruna's courtesy we MIGHT switch engine version in the near future. I'm saying MIGHT because we have to port everything from the old version to the new one and it's very tricky to say the least.

The new engine features better stuff, such as more complex lighting effects, advanced rendering,

and uses PBR (a rendering technique which takes into account physical properties of light to shade materials).

line2

Voice acting and Music

Currently there are 145 custom voicelines recorded for Lost Industry: Origins,
provided by our talented voice actors. Two new music composers have joined
the team and they will provide a great soundtrack for the game!
Upon release, the music will be avaiable on YT, SoundCloud and other sites
as well, they are not copyrighted.

That's about it so far, thank you very much for reading.
Until next time, here are some pictures for you guys:

Greetings!

I'm Peredice, and I want to inform the dear followers and viewers about the progress we've made!

Choreographed Scenes and Voice Acting

I'm really excited to bring you the great news that the Half Life 2 Faceposer works flawlessly for me,
and I'm able to create choreographed scenes in our mod! I was really worried when I started out
this project that we will not be able to deliver high-quality "cutscenes". That's not the case,
if you follow us on Discord (even on our official Discord server or on Source Modding Community)
you might have noticed me posting some videos about the scenes I've created.
It was met with a lot of praise, and I'm really grateful that you guys like it!

I consider myself really lucky and blessed with the voice actors I'm working with!
They are really talented and always ready to record more lines for the project.
Having actors and choreographed scenes is hard actually, you need so much preparation
to be able to create a simple scene that is up to standards. But I'm getting used to it!

line2

Level Design and Story

The maps for the mod are coming along well, it's being constantly playtested (much more than LI2 was).
There is still much to do though, I'm thinking about getting some map designers by my side to help me
do this part of the project much faster. The story is already written, though it has been changed here
and there, I've managed to finish the story and tie Origins to LI1 and LI2. I will not spoil anything here.

line

What's next?

Next I will be sure to finish all the choreographed scenes and finish all the levels as soon as possible.
I've also promised a fixed version of Lost Industry 2, but I still haven't got around to it, even if
I get around it, don't expect a huge change in gameplay, I'll fix what is necesarry and what the
community suggested to me.

I'm also planning to create a trailer with LambdaGeneration, with the release date in it,
and work on an exclusive Behind The Scenes video what will be directed by me
and I'll have my face in it too.

So far that's all I wanted to show you guys!
Thanks for reading and see you next time.

Announcing Lost Industry: Origins

News 1 comment

trans

Hi everybody, I'm Peredice!

I'm announcing that we are working on the new title called Lost Industry: Origins.
I know that it's been up in ModDB for a while and I've been showing screenshots about it,
but I still haven't made it official that it's a thing.

line1

What is Lost Industry: Origins?

Lost Industry: Origins is a mod taking place before the happenings of Lost Industry 1 and 2.
It is more focused on telling a story and less focused on shooting, but I can assure you that there will be alot of action!

Why Origins and not LI3?

I'm want to try something new and I'm trying to move away from that factory setting.
Also in the development of Lost Industry 2, there were 2 levels that weren't made it into the final product.
I don't want to waste those maps, so I'm making a new mod out of it!
And just to be clear I'm not planning to make Lost Industry 3, I'm not going to make it, someone else might, but I'm sure as hell it's not going to be me because I got tired of that.

What now?

We are working on Lost Industry: Origins hard and I'm really excited about it. It will not take nearly as long as Lost Industry 2 scince we are already done with most of the things, right now I'm working on the Voices for the Voice actors and Coreographed scenes what I've never done before.

line

That's about it, if there will be any news I'll be sure to write an article about it!
Thank you for reading!

Lost Industry: Origins 2021 January Update

Hi, Peredice here!
I hope everyone has a pleasant new year so far.
It's been 3 months since the last article published here on ModDB, and we've made a lot of progress!
Let's get into it.

line3

Map progress

I'm happy to announce that the development of the canals and the last level are going smoothly,
and hopefully they will be finished next month. The rest of the levels are playable and finished, only needing a few tweaks here and there. And that's only for Lost Industry: Origins. *wink* *wink*

line

Switching engines

Last time there were some misconceptions about us switching to a completely different engine, and that was my fault, I didn't explain it quite well. We are going to use a modified version of the Source engine called AGS (Actually Good Source). The porting happened successfully, and for the past two months we are developing the game on this new engine version.

line2

Choreography, Voice acting and Music

Currently there are;

  • 199 Custom voice lines provided by the talented voice actors.
  • 84 Choreographed scenes made by me.
  • 6 Custom music tracks, 4 of the songs are in the works.

Impressive numbers, all of the voice lines were recorded, edited, and put into the game.
And every line has English closed captions attached to them. All of the choreographed
scenes are done, only needing to polish a few.

We've got a trailer in the works that I'm really looking forward to since we will use custom music and neat SFM animations.

That's about it, if you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments, thanks for reading.

Until next time,
Farewell!
