Spent few hours today making hex camo patterns and just had to try one out on the new rifle. Gotta say they work really well!
I'll be honest here, it looks pretty damn ugly. It's not so much the camo pattern its self as the fact that it's applied to pretty much every part, save the barrel, grip and mag. Having the lower reciever/lower handguard a different, flat colour would probably help. Just my opinion though
You do have a point and I intent to work on it when I start texturing it properly. This was just to try the camo itself and how it works with cubemapping.
Im thinking maybe black/dark grey combined with the camo and also gotta give the shiny parts matte colors as well. Not much use of camo if theres reflective surface all over the gun. :D
Also I might scale the pattern up a bit, the dots are rather small right now and they could look better if they were larger.
Thing to keep in mind for camo patterns, the idea is to 'break up' the silhouette of an object to make it harder to see.
