New build of Last Alliance is out! This is smaller update only with some new provinces and fixes - Read more to see information about this version ^^
Mae govannen!
Second update in this month, yay! New provinces (now campaign map has 109 provinces) and mostly fixes for campaign. So, not too much, but campaign now should be better :P
Now I would like to add more content for Lindon and maybe Numenor, so in next update probably you will see more units and other fixes for this factions ^^
This is full version, you don't need previous version to play, but you don't have to remove previous version (e.g. if you want finish your started campaign). Don't run files from different version together!
Not save compatible
Recommended difficulty level: Normal (or Hard if you need more challenge)
Main changes in Alpha v0.2.1:
- 11 new provinces (7 in Calenardhon and 4 in Gondor) - all under Wildmen control
- Removed province on Tolfalas Island (because I can’t find way to fix problems with this island, maybe I will back to this later)
- Removed River Ports on rivers: Harnen, Gwathlo, Baranduin and Lhun (caused more problems than was useful)
- Changed this rivers to standard rivers (before it was sea territory, but too small to navigate fleet) - except part of Harnen and part of Gwathlo - but it would be too long to explain this problem here
- Fixes for land and sea trade routes and also roads around this rivers
- Probably fixed permanent crash which could be on Kingdom of Lindon AI turn
- All faction leaders which unique outfit and bodyguard are now immortal - temporary solution to limit situation when random characters use outfits belonging to important characters
- Added new building icons for Wildmen
- Added elven faction in Edhellond (they use now Lindon’s roster, buildings, technologies, etc. - it placeholder, later they will be Galadhrim subfaction)
- Added more variants of colours for elven tunics
- Test - changes in height map in Numenor - I'm trying to make campaign landscape more good looking but idk whether it looks better ;-;
- Added region borders on minimap - now should be more readable
- Fixed sea ground type in place where is trading point with dwarves from Orocarni (no more fleets suffer sea's attrition in this place)
- Removed wall’s cannons in siege battles
- Some other small fixes

Please don't forget about the limitations of the engine regarding the amount of settlements/provinces. There are only 65 provinces on regular Shogun 2. There is no gameplay reason good enough for the mod to faithfully represent all the provinces/settlements found on the Books. Stability, balance, performance and fun should be the focus of any game/mod and not just/necessarily lore parity to their sources. Also Shogun 2's Ai doesn't work well when cities/towns are too close together (it is unable to defend them efectibly) so it is better that most settlements are at least 1 or 2 turns apart. Of course you are the owner of this mod and it is finally up to you the way you draw the map but please just keep in mind that some of us are still on budget computers and also the limitations of the base game ;)
Okay, let's split this message
"Please don't forget about the limitations of the engine regarding the amount of settlements/provinces."
What limitations?
"There are only 65 provinces on regular Shogun 2."
Yep, and what? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"There is no gameplay reason good enough for the mod to faithfully represent all the provinces/settlements found on the Books. Stability, balance, performance and fun should be the focus of any game/mod and not just/necessarily lore parity to their sources."
Most of settlements are fan made, to make this campaign more enjoyable. But probably after finish project I will publish source files, so you will can make campaign where e.g. Eriador it... 8 settlements? And Enedwaith it three settlements and Rohan it one settlement (in Akallabeth timeframe, in Last Alliance War timeframe would be a bit more settlements, but still not too much). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"Also Shogun 2's Ai doesn't work well when cities/towns are too close together (it is unable to defend them efectibly) so it is better that most settlements are at least 1 or 2 turns apart."
Not. AI on vanilla map can works a bit better because vanilla campaign has tunnel structure when campaign map in mod has open structure. Did you never play on mods with more provinces in Japan, right?
"Of course you are the owner of this mod and it is finally up to you the way you draw the map"
Ufff, that's good
"but please just keep in mind that some of us are still on budget computers"
As I know, is not problem to run e.g. Morning Sun (as far the largest campaign map in Shogun 2) mod on budget computer. However, no matter how much provinces I will put on campaign map, then still battles probably will be more challenge for PC.
"and also the limitations of the base game ;)"
Still I don't know what limitations ;-;
Well, I also play DCI: Last Alliance for Medieval 2 and that mod has the exact amount of content and provinces (~140) any fan would ever need. IMHO anything more than that is complete overkill no matter how "unlimited" any engine is. Moddb.com
DCI is on a smaller scale than LA and in an older engine that does have restrictions. Just because one mod chooses to stop at 140 regions doesn't mean any more than that is overkill.
It simply means that the scope of the mod is larger than that of the other.
With LA, you have a progressively increasing map size to account for the scope of the mod. It'll get a lot higher than 109 before it's done and I don't see what the problem with that is. When you have a mod with greater scope, all it needs is the accompanying depth to each faction's campaign.
With DCI - which uses the older engine of Medieval 2 - they do have to worry about the 200 region limit imposed by that. They chose to only use 140 regions, which is their decision. Sara has chosen to use as many regions as it takes, which is her decision. I don't doubt that when LA is finished it will be just as good as DCI - in fact I believe it will be far better than DCI, though that is purely my personal opinion.
Yeah I agree, Rome 2's Grand Campaign has 57 Provinces and 183 Regions. When playing the current LA grand campaign map does not feel crowded and distances are just perfect except for the Numenor Island which has too many settlements in my opinion. Additionally I would place it slightly to the north east of its current position, it is too low and too far from some colonies and I believe it should not take more than 3 turns to reach it.
pureevil29 Okay, so, maybe now you explain for what sake did you write this whole thread?
Because in first comment you tried to look smarter than you're and you started talk about imagined by you "limits" (from this comment is visible that you know nothing about campaign map modding).
Next fully ignored my answer and you started compared LA map and DCI: LA map (what not has any sense, because in LA is planning much more terytories) and saying that 140 regions is perfect for everything... but in next comment you said that campaign map with 183 regions is also ok...
Maybe you will decide what is your opinion? And what are you trying achieve in this "discussion"?
You are right Sara, I wasn't able to express myself correctly because english is not my first language.
Any amount of settlements is good as long as the game remains stable and fun.
After playing some more I realized that the current amount of settlements is almost perfectly balanced besides Numenor so I won't make any more stupid suggestions on subjects you clearly know better ;)
To not waste any more of your time, your work speaks for itself, you certainly know what you are doing and know the engine much better than almost anyone besides the original devs =)
dude it's her free work and passion first thing's first and at the end of the day.
We're just here to appreciate and enjoy her creations. But we aren't entitled to anything else. We can perhaps at the very most suggest or recommend but we dont have to be a beach about it.
If you enjoy it, then thank her. If not, then dont play it no one forced you. If you want to play on your own terms it's best you learn modding yourself which is what I do. I dont like other's existing mods or parts of their mods? I tweak and modify them myself for personal use.
It's a free mod. She made this freely with her own time and effort.

what limitations are you talking about thoo? shogun 2 is literally one of the most mod friendly game compared to new total wars
I think the limitations are above wat u think expanded japan has like 180 regions
Great mod Sarah!
This is absolutely incredible! Well done. Congrats on the ModDB award too.
Will there be a submod that will unlock minor factions to be playable in the campaign considering the advancements you’ve shown off on the steam workshop?
Maybe, I will think about this, last time when I unlocked part of background content then some people was very annoying
Hello I love the mod, but I'm experiencing an issue. The mod is running well, but the factions around the Numenorean colonies to the north who border other human nations, are all invisible. Idk if they are just not finished or if I experienced an issue on my end but so far the north seems unplayable and only south of Gondor is playable since the models are there. Like, Harad, Lindon, and Numenoreans are visible. Thank you for making this mod and I look forward to your response!:)
List of land which are now available is here: Moddb.com (tagged as "released")
If factions on available lands no have models then means that you wrong installed mod (I guess that you used winrar instead 7zip or you didn't run all .pack files)
I have an issue as its only a TZ file for me which does nothing when installing it so what do I do to fix this
Did you read installation guide?
best mod ever thank you sara
Im thinking of buying shogun 2 for this mod. Do I only need the base game and blood pack or do I need any DLC?
As I know you don't need any DLC to play in mod
Sara, is the longbow bug fixed? The string of the bows doesnt stretch when the missile units shoot.. Its kinda hurting the realism of the game.
I don't know how to edit string animation (which fit to only one type of longbow - asimetric japanese longbow), so I disabled it for all bows
