2 Years after the release of "Klingon Academy II: The General War" comes a multiplayer/instant action expansion, "Klingon Academy II: Empire at War". KA2: EAW takes the enhanced combat gameplay of KA2: The General War and adds a rich, detailed 'Empire Building' element to it. No longer can you quickly build up your forces. Now you must dedicate time and resources to research and development. This detailed system of hull, conversion packs, systems, weapons and other miscellaneous research also sheds light on the backstory behind KA2. Learn about the Klingon Empire designs her warships, how the Federation developed the massive Yamato Class, and discover the history of the Interstellar Concordium and the Tholian Assembly. Each side has an expanded set of ship classes, and a mysterious new power has entered the galaxy. The Federation's worst fears are about to be realised...

Does it still require the texture fix?

Also, I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, but will we ever see a single player campaign again?

Nope, no texture fix required. Plug and play.

As for Single Player Campaigns, I have been experimenting with Megadroids mission mod. I'll keep you posted on my findings.

It should be installed into Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations\Data\Mods (so that inside Mods there is a folder called KA2 EAW)

Sometimes the installer misses this final step and dumps all the files straight into Mods. Not sure why. If it's done that, just select all the files, and cut and paste them into a new folder called KA2 EAW. Should then work.

Meh it's clear this isn't going to be worth my time, I'm not a computer guy the mods I like are ones where all you do is download them and they go too the files they are supposed to, I HATE messing with files re writing some file path or whats it I'm mostly a console player but I have a few games on the pc that I have put over 1200 hours on like shogun 2.

I downloaded this, this sais it's a stand alone yet when I go too mods in fleetops it only shows the fleetops version it doesn't show anything else but random files like ai or whatever else...I hate dealing with computers.

Right.

Inside your FleetOps Data directory, they should be a folder called Mods, and inside that, KA2 EAW

So in my case

Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operations\Data\Mods\KA2 EAW

Inside that KA2 EAW folder should be various loose files, and then the mod folders (ODF, Textures, Sprites etc)

Still not seeing a launcher for it.

I've searched every folder in mods I only see ka icon but nothing on a launcher in fleetops mod section it only shows fleetops as playable and active.

Ok so I created a folder called ka2 eaw and now I see the option in mods in the game but when I launch it it just crashes.

sprites tech tree and textures show under the mod in fleetops is that how it should look? Not sure what else to do.

nvm I finally got this thing to work.

Gameplay is extremely slow though I assume you can change this.

ah I see.

Well this is really impressive and really glad I got this to work , but It makes me long for klingon academy which I cant get to work on my windows 7.

I guess one thing I wish and I dont expect considering your alone on this project is for some idk more damage modeling perhaps. Maybe some improved explosions like fleetops have.

Still thanks a ton for all this hard work definitely something you should get paid for in some way. I'd donate but on a layoff form work.

Hmm I really like the way research is handled it's kinda like the dominion race in fo but more in depth I wish fo was more like this game in terms of research.

If you haven't got the 1.41 Patch, I'd strongly recommend it (there is a fault in FleetOps that means the GDDS, when used by the AI, crashes the game. The latest patch changes the way the GDDS Defensive Mode works to prevent this).

Also if you could save and forward any crash reports on to the email address provided along with details on which map you were playing, which side you were playing (and against whom) and what you were doing at the time of the crash, i'd greatly appreciate it

I understand the gameplay to be slow but I do feel the stations take way too long to build, I like that ships dont come out super fast balances the game more but it is kinda a time killer.

Files are there for you to alter if you wish :)

I did originally have almost KA style damage modelling (although couldn't have nacelles blown off, I could only add not subtract) but the 3d modelling required, the system resources it took up (basically it created a duplicate of the 3d model, thus doubling polygon counts) and the time it took to hardpoint such models was prohibitive, hence it was dropped.

hmm a shame thats one thing I'm not liking about most of these star trek mods they dont have the really cool damage effects in combat so watching them battle tends to get boring but I understand your reasoning.

One thing that really irks me is the path finding though ships wont do what I tell them to do. For example they will encounter a dangerous nebula so I tell them to leave it only they dont they just keep going farther into it taking all the time I spent getting those ships for a push into enemy territory all for nothing thus I end up just simply quitting out.

It's a really impressive mod but has a lot of bugs but since you did it by yourself it still is a really good one but cant say it's something I will keep playing for long it simply kills a lot of my free time I rather play fleetops at least that one works like it should I dont remember getting crashed or spending hours just to get a specific type of ship.

Again I know your reasoning but for fun factor it tends to become a grind, and putting resources to unlimited just makes it too chaotic enemies just go into hoard mode and you can spend way too long trying to cut their forces down to do the real damage only for it to be for nothing.

Now that I finally got klingon academy to work I cant get enough of it the tng mod for this game is amazing even better damage modeling than the original game which I thought was pretty cool.

I like your mod but I dont see myself getting away from klingon academy tng version for a long time especially since I dont have that blinking light constantly going off during play on original version.

You plan on perhaps doing a tng conversion for your mod, I like fleet ops but I'd like to see more ships and races like what you got and like the research depth better.

I did consider making a "The Lost Era" sequel, sort of 2330 ish, but I figured it would be just KA2 with some older units gone and newer units in their place.

Also, KA2 isn't actually intended as a game sequel to KA. Two very different games. It does follow on storywise (which it also does from Starfleet Command II). The reason it is "KA2" is that it's the sequel to my original KATC (Klingon Academy Total Conversion) mod for Armada I

and impressive it is, still I'd love to see you put tng and later ships into this as perhaps another stand alone but dont expect it, I imagine it's a huge undertaking for one guy alone, but I feel it would be worth your other team members time to help you on the side perhaps.

Thank you for delivering a fun game, right now after finding klingon academy tng mod I just haven't put in the time into this mod but I still put many hours into it, but like I said if this had some damage modeling which I always prefer in a space game woguld take a lot more of my time but I also dont expect this or demand anything after all this was free.

It's a shame that excalibure team isn't delivering on that game would have been epic but after 10 years...meh kinda a waste of time.

Can you tell anything about whats going on for your guys current new armada project I remember hearing it's using a new engine and actual professional devs not just modders for this project, I haven't seen anything new on your guys official fleetops.net site.

Unfortunately I am not a member of the FleetOps dev team, so your guess is as good as mine when it comes to what they are doing with "NX" as it's being called.

Still a cool mod considering you did it yourself but nothing so far has beat the satisfaction I've had with the tng mod for klingon academy even bridge commander I feel is inferior due to how utterly unstable the mods make that game I got tired of crashing after every other quick battle yet on the tng mod It doesn't happen nearly as often and frankly have more ships to choose from that all are more properly balanced.

Good job you planning on doing other stuff or you done with it?

You don't seem to grasp that this isn't a simulator, like KA or Bridge Commander. It's a different genre, and ergo balance is different. There is nothing "improper" about the way they are balanced in KA2, you just can't expect an RTS to play the same as a simulator.

As for the crashes, they seem to be AI related and I have been running tests daily to try and figure out exactly what is causing the problem. 1 on 1 seems to function fine.

Oh I understand just stating that since this was inspired by the simulator game it would have been neat if it was possible to have some of the same tech involved but I understand it just isn't possible with this engine.

Personally not all that interested in this mod anymore though I played a decent amount for a while but I just haven't had that need for armada as of late.
