Jalaso doom, a mod made specifically to overhaul certain lighting aspects of doom 1. Certain areas that lack shadows to make the scene more realistic, this mod fixes. Some areas like the first level of doom 1 lack alot of shadows that would appear in modern remakes of this game in different engines. This mod doesn't cheat by modifying the engine in anyway. infact, Jalaso doom will work with any engine port of doom for any machine that supports it, so no additional modification is needed. Shadows and lighting adjustment will be made using in engine tools already available to us.

So hey, its been around about year or two since i made my last update, and i'd like to apologise for the wait. This is something that should've been completed in a few months, but it wasn't.

The reason is and it will always be, i'm lazy as hell (and i'm busy most of the time with college and that), and i kinda forgot about the mod. So why didn't i just make an update article halfway thru the previous year to update people? well, i always told myself i'd only make an update article once i had something new to show off or i wanted to update people on progress, but i just kept forgetting about it and putting it aside for other stuff.

Now i kinda realise i left it aside for too long lol. So yeah, i will be focusing on this since this is the only mod project i've made that's even close to being finished, and it'd be really awesome if i finally released this :)

I highly doubt ID of all companies would be the ones to give you copyright issues over a simple lighting modification for a game that's 25 years old.

If that was the case any mod which uses or changes assets from episode 2-4 would be in trouble.

And that would be a vast majority of them.

But the problem still kinda stands, if i were to change the lighting for all 4 episodes and give that wad away for free which also includes the episodes, then that would be breaking the law since doom is still being sold by online DRM services.

Unless the game's company closed or the game itself stops being sold anywhere, i cannot legally modify those other episodes since all i'm changing is lighting.

I'd essentially be giving away the full version of doom for free with some added light enhancements, and that's not going to sit with ID softwares/bethesdas copyright team

What other people are doing are changing the level design and replacing assets with their own, i'm only doing slight adjustments to dooms lighting utilising their built in lighting system.

Then why not just design the lighting mod in a way that doesn't require you to bundle the entire game with it?

I can't, this is my first mod i've ever made so i don't have any idea on how to do that properly due to me being pretty terrible at it. I'd really like to know because that'd make the process ten times easier.

use gzdoom builder to work one these, its way easier.

The only minor problem with using something like the gzdoom builder is that it might break existing compatibility with the software renderer. And since i kinda want to use as much of the original engine as possible i'm kinda left with limited options.
