“Otherwise… well… I can offer you a battle you have no chance of winning…..rather an anticlimax, after what you’ve just survived…”

Take the job. All that you had to do was just take the job. But, no. You decided that your pride was more sacred than your safety. And thanks to a teleport malfunction you are back right where you started… four kilometers underground in the darkest corner of the Black Mesa Research Facility.

When you regain your consciousness, sirens and screams are all you hear as you wake up to the reality of utter chaos and destruction. Corpses lie mangled in pools of their own blood.

Hallways and staircases are sealed – collapsed by airstrikes. To top it all off, most of the inhabitants of Xen have used their natural instinct to migrate here since the destruction of their home planet, and rifts in space time continue to throw Xen creatures into the bowels of Black Mesa.

Now your trapped in an alien-infested hole in the ground with only one objective – reach the surface alive. Unfortunately, that may not be as easy as it sounds, because the military has decided that rather than kill every witness individually, they are going to simply seal off all of the exits…..and then set off a thermal nuclear weapon.

Now its a race against the clock as you fight your was through infested alien nesting grounds and military blockades while constantly trying to reach the surface and get out of here alive. Hopefully you make it to the surface soon, because in about 12 hours, the entire facility will be reduced to radioactive dust.

“No regrets, Mr. Freeman.”

For anyone who's confused:

There isn't anything else to do after the fight with Gonarch, the mappack is unfinished and it's the ending. Just imagine a fade to black after you kill the boss.

Be proud of it, even though it flew under the radar of most, your mappack is regarded highly among those who've played it. Ten maps with great quality.

Hell, I'm replaying it right now :)

So playing it in 2023 is kinda fun. Overall it gives you a feel like this mod was created 20 years ago and has a vintage vibe. Sometimes it is easy, I could skip a lot without battling the enemies, sometimes it was hard, I had like 3hp and it were 4 soldiers left so that took my like 10 save/loads. The biggest disappointment is the ending and overall the last map, it makes to no sense. Nice start but then it feels like the author lost interest. So I am 7/10 because overall it was fun, but with proper ending and more sense it could be higher. Also the water level lags a lot.

Very interesting mod.
Sorry for my previous vote 4/10, played a couple years ago.
I've suddenly replayed it and changed my mind.
Challenging gameplay + interesting situations + strong athmosphere.
Even an unfinished "ending" adds to its athmosphere...
9/10

This is one of those "what ifs", when Gordon refused G-mans offer and something unexpected happens with the teleportation and you get whisked away to a random part of Xen before going back to Black Mesa. Its one those really well designed mods that keeps it traditional with a few surprises like the big area with the 2 alien swimmers and long jump module that keeps things fresh, and the big outside area we get to have some fun with near the end. It's level design has some detail, like its been slightly infused with alien fauna, and more damaged than usual... its pretty tight with ammo and health and we get to see a few really tough areas with grunts in fortified positions while aliens are spawning around the place, making it fun to interfere in the middle of their fights.
Medium in length and good pacing.
Unfortunately it suffers towards the end of being unfinished, after the boss fight there's no end screen or credits or resolution... its just over.
7/10
