Starting in 1519, India is Fractured into Several Hindu and Muslim Ruled Empires. Babur the Timurid begins his invasion from Afghanistan. The Portuguese, the first European traders to establish trade colonies in India, have begun their wars against the Muslims. Gunpowder is relatively new and having a strong effect on the peasant and elephant armies traditional to medieval India. =Simpler Submods for a 1725AD and 327BC start date are also in progress. The main mod for this project is set in 1519, when the Mughal Empire, ruled by Babur, descended from Timur, invaded India with his Afghan army, their steppe influenced cavalry, along with musketmen and light artillery, dominated India for the next two hundred years.

Possible Submods

The Mughals were replaced by the Maratha, players Empire Total War will feel more familiar with the next submod, set in 1723, with the rise of the British Trading Company and the Maratha Empire, this mod will focus more heavily on gunpowder warfare. (Map won't be released until after main mod, I may release custom battle version beforehand)

A Smaller submod set in 1500 is planned, featuring the east African coast and simulating the Portuguse India Armadas and their actions in Kerela and other coastlines of the Indian Ocean. (Map in Very early Development)

Long before this, in the year 326 BC, Alexander the Great, After having marched his army all the way from Macedonia, invades the Indian subcontinent. The rise of the Maurya Empire will be the primary focus of this mod. (Map in Very early Development)

ok some more suggestions...i went through the AP mod..i did bring this mod to ur notice before in the research section...but i'm just reminding u incase...there is a huge abundance of units that can be imported from "anatolian principalities"mod....there is an equivalent and better replacement for every unit in our mod currently as far as islamic factions are concerned....like i said in the post below all the horse archer units, lancer units for mughal faction looked overly mongoloid in appearance in the current state of mod...these units can all be replaced with better equivalents that look believable and more turco-mongol in nature..there are better substitutes for general bodyguard that can be also used for mughal general bodyguard as well.....even the unit cards are really beautiful....there are perfect replacements for horsearcher units, pathan cavalry units etc etc....as far as infantry units are concerned, even here the 'anatolian principalities" mod has huge abundance of islamic swordsmen, spearmen, axemen, javelinmen, missile infantry and mercenary units....so i suggest we go through this mod...like a lot of these units can be used for mughals, delhi sultanate, bengal gujarat malwa and deccan sultanates and for normal islamic mercenary units....hell some of these unit models can be used as strat map general and faction character models too

ok...first of all...great job until now...some edits i suggest after going through the game....
1)some of the unit cards especially those of the mercenary cavalry units could use better card art...especially from anatolian principalities, stainless steel and broken crescent...because the unit cards look like english mercenary knights
2)the mongol horse archer units look to mongoloid in appearance...they resemble the tengrid shamanistic mongols of 12th century ghenghis's era rather than the 16th century islamised mongols....the mughal force was somewhat turco-mongol in nature....even the mongol lancers look too mongoloid....to this end the horsearcher units in stainless steel like "turkoman cavalry","turkish horsearchers","fari cavalry" looked far better and suited compared to mongol horsearchers....however i guess we can give these a pass for now till we find a better unit...i'll search some mods like anatolian principalities and stainless steel for better units
3)there are a lot of good unit cards as well as units in stainless steel that overlap with this mod... we can use those as well...and these cards have better believable art...also many of the unit cards and units from broken crescent are also done well like for e.g the afghan axemen units have perfect unit cards...
4)we have to use better user interface....the vanilla med2 interface looks too dull and boring....we can import the beautiful ui from stainless steel or other mods etc etc
5)i don't know about the faction symbols...they look totally out of place....mughals and delhi sultans have the same city symbols ....maybe you intend to implement them better in coming releases and u were still working with demo.......because they seem to be half done...a bunch of them had somewhat flickering symbols for the ones i had designed...if u are still focussing on the gameplay more than on the aesthetics then i can give that a pass for now...maybe we can worry about them later...
6)about the artwork we can use better painting and images than the ones in use...like i would heavily suggest changing the main menu art because it is irrelevant...the main menu art is that of timur imprisoning sultan bayezid after the battle of ankara which has nothing to do with india...i would suggest you use this picture of the "peacock throne"of the mughals that was stolen from delhi
Pbs.twimg.com
...because the focus must be on delhi here(since its the crown jewel of india)
and for the starting splash screen,we could use the photo of diwan-i-am(hall of public audience of the emperors)
Upload.wikimedia.org
i would suggest editing the above photo a little bit since it is too bright....as for other images we could also use a lot of images from the red forts at agra, delhi, the taj mahal, qila rai pithora fort, purana qila,diwan-i-am,diwani-i-khas,kumbalgarh fort, chittorgarh fort, victory tower of rana kumbha, the ruins of hampi in vijayanagara, the golgumbaz, temples at varanasi mathura kashi amarnath kedarnath tirupati, the ganges river, yamuna river, puri jagannath temple, images for koh-i-noor and darya-i-noor diamonds, fortresses of afghanistan....also about quotes, again there are a lot of quotes to be borrowed from many personalities, military geniuses, poets(especially with the background of the bhakti movement as a prelude to this era),kings etc.....we should also focus on using more miniature paintings,as it is the trademark feature of this late medieval era....many of the miniature paintings also feature a lot of mahabharat and ramayan themes...there is a lot of abundant imagery to draw from...
7) a thing i noticed in the campaign...peshawar is shown in the possession of mughals at the start of the campaign in 1519..this is totally inaccurate as in reality the delhi sultans were in posession of everthing in a belt from peshawar to bihar(peshawar, rawalpindi, lahore, sirhind, bhatinda, delhi, agra and the indogangetic belt including bihar jaunpur and bundelkhand)....peshawar was first occupied by babur in 1526 on the eve of his invasion into india from the hands of daulat khan lodi who was sultan ibrahim's governor in punjab....until then the punjab province lay in the hands of the sultan..
thats all...thanks :)

1) Thanks! I'll go through the A.P. mod if i can clear some hard drive space, I've already updated a lot of them with broken crescent unit cards

2)Replacing unit models will be one of the last things I do probably just because I don't know how tedious it will be yet, but it's also one of the most important things for the feel of the mod, a lot of unit types are hard to find pictorial representations of, I'll maybe start a big list of units and we can share it on google drive to narrow down the looks

3)I haven't looked through SS icons much yet but I will soon

4)Thanks! just replaced the main menu, i'll work on the campaign/battle ui next

5)Yeah the campaign map faction symbols are a mess, when you change faction colors around the game does weird stuff with the flags. I haven't done much to the menu faction symbols yet, the ones you sent looked great but lost a lot of detail when I made them smaller, I'll fix all the faction menu/campaign flags for the next update though

6)Thanks for the picture suggestions! I hadn't thought about or didn't know about many of those

7)Fixed it! Sometimes it's hard to find ownership for certain years, for Rawalpindi though, the wikipedia article says Gakhars took it over in 1493? Not sure if that's correct though

Thanks for taking the time to do the review! if think of any thing else just let me know.

Also I'll be posting questions I need help with at the top of the Research and Development Article, please have a look when you have the time

i know i can be really tiring someone regarding history XD..but put up with me.... regarding your question on rawalpindi, like the Wikipedia page says it seems it was occupied by gakhars in 1493,however if they did, they most probably held it as a fief in the name of the afghani lodi delhi sultans or probably held it independently(I'm not quite sure of this) until babur's invasion....during the invasion, somewhere around 1525 the gakhars swore fealty to babur....but the gakhars were distributed in the rawalpindi area...so either way rawalpindi must be in the control of delhi sultanate at the start of the campaign in 1519....gakhars were somewhat a diverse group...there were both hindu and muslim gakhars recorded throughout history....they ruled some of those areas with mughal emperors as their overlord..interestingly enough the gakhars remained fiercely loyal to the mughals right from the days of babur.....so much so that even when emperor humayun lost the battles of chausa and kannauj ,lost his empire in hindusthan and was forced to go into exile seeking shelter elsewhere, the gakhars remained true to their word and were ever loyal to him...even when sher shah suri had consolidated and expanded his empire to include all of the indogangetic belt and sindh in northern india, the gakhars were still well known rebellious troublemakers for him...it is for the very same reason that sher shah built the famous rohtas fort(not to be confused with rohtasgarh fort in bihar)so that he could oversee the rebellious gakhars and suppress them....however eventually when emperor humayun defeated sher shah's successors at sirhind and machchiwara and re-established the mughal empire, the gakhars regained their position and remained ever loyal to his successors...in fact during Akbar's reign the Attock fort was constructed since his half brother Mirza hakim who was in charge of kabul frontier was unreliable and rebellious....so Rawalpindi became a sort of a "defacto/true" frontier until Mirza Hakim died and the gakhars who held it were responsible for its protection...

also Korgoth about the faction symbols ensure that the from the images i sent u,use only the circular part/artwork for the faction symbols...leave out any text that is written outside the logo(but keep the text inside as it is for the faction symbol)..
like for e.g from the images i sent u
use the sun along with rays and the text inside for the mewaris
use only the sun and lion inside for the mughals and leave out the circular text
...i would like to see the entire artwork i.e logo + text/slogan in relavant script only for the battle banner of faction leaders and faction heirs in the battle map(not the strat map banner)...for the strat map banner and city symbol(when garrison is empty)use the same circular part/logo that we use for the faction symbol becoz including the text will make it cluttered...

despite this if you have any problem with the faction symbols..like if they get cluttered or lose detail...tell me and i'll edit them again and probably emphasise more on the symbol and remove some of the script/text becoz the symbolism is more important here..

Saw the new pics...I noticed the symbol of Vijayanagara was used for Rajput units....just correct that if it is true...and by the way u can borrow a lot of unit cards from stainless steel for the units....many of these units exist in other mods also...their unit card art is better( note not the unit scroll....the scroll is perfect...I'm talking of the card)...

No worries, I was playing a custom battle as vijaya but clicking on rajput units to bring up their info, the unit card at the bottom is just for a generic swordsmen but most of those units shown have a more suitable unit card, I'll check out SS though! I've mostly been borrowing from Broken Crescent
