That bird is a Phoenix as a symbol of the near destruction of the earth in the wake of WW3 before coming to new life as the Alliance.
Mostly based on the bird/shield of Boy Scout ranks. i didnt even realise it until i was done. I was a Boy Scout until my dad passed away and i lost the only reason it was enjoyable to me.
