He has a weird expression now. Yeah, to be fixed, along with his nostril. Also, what looks like a cut on his face is already fixed.

Oh, and I just tried something. WITHOUT Meshsmooth, it's only around 700! So with it, it's around 2,700! CRAZY difference. I wish there was 0.5 iterations!

I can see your just strecthing your vertexes to make it look right?.. please find some better methodes i think that you are ok at making weapon, but you should drop the organics. But it looks alot, better than the other, but still,not perfect and by the way you can bake a bumpmap out of the smoothed one onto the one without meshsmooth, it will look the same + not so many polys, but again, i dont know the max polys for a charc. on the GldScr engine, on source a charc should only be around 10k, and maps on gold scr is only like.. 2-5k? for a multiplayer map(i think it was the recommended polys) so the head is a bit high poly :P

Hey, thanks for the feedback, but I can't drop Organics. I HAVE to make them, so I have to learn. I'm almost done with my model, and it looks kinda good. MUCH better than the other one.

But in GoldSource, there IS no hair, bump maps, and a VERY small poly count limit. I'll improve it, but I have to make organics. I'll learn how to make it better, but I'm not going to redo it. Only improve it.

BTW, saying this stuff, though trying to help, isn't very helpful. Instead of saying that it's bad, say how to fix it! This way, I can make it much better. I've finished the basic head now and am going to work on the ears, mouth and eyes. And then, a few details. Next comes the hair, which I've never done before. Wish me luck!

Hey again.

I am not a 3ds max user, i use Maya, so its kind of hard for me to say how to do, but you can find some coding that allows you to use bumpmapping, or code it yourself, and i would suggest you to find a tutorial on how to do it (ie. www.3dtotal)or something (btw you can make hair out of low polys, textures or bumpmap) but good luck with the project, and feel free to pm me at any time.

I know bump mapping for models is possible, but I haven't coded it yet. I still have to do it, and won't add bump maps until it's done.

Thanks for your support, but the tutorial isn't really helpful, because I'm making a realistic head. I'll try improve it. Thanks again!

Still in the beginning, but doing better than before, here's my REMADE Barney Calhoun. I'm using the Half-Life 2 version as a base, and making him look younger. But now, he looks a lot like the "Mirror on the wall" from Snow White (And Shrek) ( Hollywoodjesus.com ). Anyways, still early WIP. I'll try make him BETTER than the HL 2 version, with more hair poly's to look more realistic. Hope Joo like it!

Barney Calhoun is head of Security in Black Mesa. In Half-Life 1, his model was used for every guard. In Half-Life 2, he played a vital role against the Combine, even pretending to be one. Now, he's actually a character in HypernovA, and you'll meet him a few times. You can leave Alyx with him. You can order him to attack, or defend. You can ask him to press a button.

Barney's hair is black, and parted. He he is unshaven, but not full-bearded. He has brown eyes, and has no special weapons. All security units will be armed with Mp5's and Spas12's in an emergency, and otherwise only carry a Desert Eagle or Glock.
