"In The Grim Darkness Of The Far Future There Is Only War" Warhammer 40k is set in a Universe where no one is safe from the horrors of space. The Imperium of man struggles to hold its borders or protect its citizens from the the alien, the mutant and the heretic. The human race is no longer a progressive race, most of the weapons and vehicles they use date back to the "Dark age of Technology" long before the days of the Emperor. Technological advance is at standstill and much has been forgotten, never to be recovered. In this dark millenia danger lurks behind every corner, and it is the holy duty of the Inquisition to guard and purge the threats within and without the Imperium. Take the role of Malachias Kane, Young Inquisitor under the command of Lord Inquisitor Dante, warring agains the notorious Chaos sorcerer Bathomeos. It is your mission to rendevouz with allies, and deliver the final piece to the plan to bring the Chaos scum under the Emperor's hammer.

and the inquisition can do whatever they want, like blow up a planet

and to think, in the imperium, skulls are the prime symbol

sure they are important but i'd hate to wake up evry morning and see skeletons everywhere, its morbid

(on side thought, why give soldiers gold insignias? they are going to DIE, espescially guardsmen)

ps. what would happen if the inquisition got the blue screen of death or the spinning pie plate of doom when targeting exterminatus?

Then I guess they have to fire the missiles manually via another ship or bomber. Then they would most likely then launch a investigation into microsoft to see if there are any heretics who purposely caused microsoft vista to be installed on all of the battle barges and all the capital ships.

lol...way in to the future and they still use the Microsoft OS. I can hardly imagine how many modern computers they would need in order for their ship's systems to actually work...

Microsoft and Apple were destroyed in an "epic battle". The latest rainbow colored products of Apple, influenced by warp (at that time unknown to men), began to feed power to Slaanesh and thus slowly started to turn his attention towards Earth. The Emperor saw the early threat and illustrated a plan. Using the corrupted corporate leaders, he triggered an all out economic war. Millions of differentiating products with unnecessary gadgets and endless advertisements on all the media channels were launched by the money-lusty companies. Even the loyalest of customers eventually found it impossible to keep up with the pace of updating to the latest hardware or software products and slowly, stopped purchasing new gadgets all together. This plummeted the companies into bankruptcy and brought great deflation to the economy. Their destruction was the preemptive trigger that would soon start the end of the golden age. And so this play of fate saved Earth from Chaos before the threat was even evident.

And to answer the question Mechanicus doesn't get BSOD. It'd be techno heresy to not install the holy back up systems that prevent such things.

Kijebe: I think that the Guardsmen don't need to be reminded of the fact that most of them will die in battle, but for what they are fighting for. Were there no boons to keep them fighting they'd probably just sit on their ***** and do nothing if there were nothing to gain. Even if it is just an illusion..

And for the skulls, well the universe of 40K is quite more darker and morbid place than ours and to forget that means a sure death. By reminding people that they are constantly in danger keeps them more alert and perhaps they will survive for that.

Eh, gold isnt that expensive in 40k, when you have several thousand planets to draw from, and likely even more prominent decoration materials that are more expensive.

A little sneaky peek on Kane's new armor design. A certain sport event got me excited so I whipped this up in a night and a half. Of course the textured version will look much better than the Milkshape screenshot :9
Didn't bother with smoothing groups to enhance viewing pleasure, just wanted to show something was being done...
