The goal of Half-Life 2 : MMod is to enhance and expand gunplay, combat mechanics and the immersion factor by giving the Player more options and combat opportunities as well as refine how the Player handles his arsenal. Half-Life 2 : MMod also offers minor AI enhancements, extended abilities for combine soldiers, multiple bug fixes, enhanced visuals, VFX re-design, sound redesign and much much more, while keeping nearly every new feature in the mod totally optional.

Please do a CLEAN install before installing 1.3, remove everything MMod related from sourcemods folder and drag and drop new folders, it shouldn't ask you to replace files.

it should be in the cfg folder, for hl2 its hl2/cfg, for this (haven't downloaded yet) should be mmod/cfg, from there you can modify skills.cfg to change ammolimits etc

I forgot to give a word on that, but majority of them will have to be fixed for 1.3, some of them might work out of the box though. All you have to do is change gamebin path to bin_episodic, if mod was built using episode 1 or 2 assets/codebase.

But brand new patches will work better than ever.

I also have that problem, but it can be resolved. You should not have the console activated. When MMOD starts, the screen freezes. Leugo when the cursor stops loading, you must make many clicks between the center and a little to the left. Be patient, click well and you can open the menu.

There is a file labelled "HL2MMod_ProperIronsights.vpk" in the Extras folder with this mod. Place the file in the "custom" folder of whatever MMod game you're currently playing and you should have proper ironsights.

For example, I'm currently playing the Half-Life 2 Update version of MMod, so I just place the .vpk file inside the directory of "...\steamapps\sourcemods\HL2MMod_HL2U\custom" and I have ironsights in my game.

+1 line removal
"| gameinfo_path | VPKs / CMModelOverrides_EP1_dir.vpk"
from gameinfo.txt does not help, original character models are loaded. And a gravel gun, for example, too.

The main menu font Mmod 1.3 does not support Cyrillic characters. Please tell me which file do I need to replace?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

I can confirm that the provided instructions in the relevant readme don't help in getting character-pimped models to show, neither named NPCs nor the generic NPC packs.

Removing the "| gameinfo_path | VPKs / CMModelOverrides_HL2_dir.vpk" line from HL2MMod_Cinematic_HL2/gameinfo.txt doesn't help. In fact, not even removing the very CMModelOverrides_HL2_dir.vpk file from its directory helps.

In my opinion,
it's one or two steps towards making a terrible combat system decent.
Definitely appreciated, but combat is still not very fun.
I understand that you don't want to stray too far from original weapons,
but every combat/action/shooter game needs some mechanic,
some kind of hook, to make it fun and fresh.
The gravity gun is Half-Life 2's hook,
but it only applies to one weapon, one which can really hardly be used (outside Ravenholm).
Bulletstorm has the leash and kick. Max Payne and F.E.A.R. have slow-mo. DOOM has alt-fire for every weapon. Portal and Dishonored have teleportation. Hard Reset has dashing. Crysis has stealth and speed and jumping. Deus Ex has temporary x-ray/radar/infrared vision.
I know they don't all really fit, but any one of these would freshen it up.
Even just a simple, small, optional slow-mo meter would go a long way for the combat.
Or just faster weapon switching, more reserve ammo, longer suit battery, sticky grenades, etc.

Reply Good karma Bad karma-2 votes
RexOrbis

The gravity gun is really hampered in MMod by the really slow switch speed.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+3 votes
naryanrobinson

The combat definitely needs something to feel fresh.
Faster weapon switch would do it, as you said.
The other top picks for me are:
Teleporting
Slow-mo
Jumping
Sideways dashing
See-through-walls vision

Half-Life 2 is boring to play through in 2020.
Clunky combat and endless traveling.
It seems everyone's too scared to admit that for some reason.
If you want unchanged Half-Life 2 you're on the wrong website.
You complain now, but if we got dashing, super-jumping, slow-mo, or teleporting properly implemented in a HL2 mod, you'd jump on it in a second, and you know it.

Reply Good karma Bad karma-2 votes

Your ideas are so garbage I thought you were joking.

HL2's combat is not 'clunky'; this isn't CoD sorry not sorry. And the travel is not endless you just need to chug some Ritalin.

"if we got dashing, super-jumping, slow-mo, or teleporting properly implemented in a HL2 mod, you'd jump on it in a second"

It's so funny to me that everyone claims Half-Life 2 is so perfect in everything it does, when the reality is, people aren't playing it any more. It simply doesn't hold up. It has no defining cool mechanic, and it has no realism or grit. It's bland to play. It's the definition of “vanilla”.
People still play Doom from 1993 because it's engaging moment-to-moment. Even if Half-Life's combat were perfect (and it's NOT, in fact it's deliberately clumsy), you're still only in fights about 10% of the time. It's meant as a packaged experience, a journey. Its gameplay is simply not that fun in isolation. And I'm going to get downvoted by every sheep still pretending that stacking bricks on a pipe-balanced plank is engaging in 2020. And the very fact that they're here on a mod website looking for ways to change the game, is proof of what they're in denial about.
Somewhere along the way Half-Life fandom started veering towards a cult, populated with angry children like AnusLust up there pretending he's still playing because he thinks it makes him look cool.

Okay i get that the puzzle side of it isn't particularly engaging its a 16 year old game, of course some things will be outdated by today standards. Yes the classic doom was, and still is, engaging to some people (myself included) but half life was there to try and push the source engine to its limits and show its enhanced physics capabilities. This is why you get some long areas which are boring to get through but it was to try and show of all the graphical enhancements, take the chapter water hazard for instance, its boring to get through on your second play through but back in 2004 it would have probably been quite impressive to have what feels like an open world experience. Me myself, I didn't enjoy that section when i played it as I felt it dragged out too long. But things like "Sideways Dashing" or "Teleportation" doesn't suit that area as its mainly meant to be an area where you can look at the progression of graphical enhancements. Both of them wouldn't really fit into the game anyways as it would make some sections (say the first physics puzzle) far too easy and it would allow you to skip the majority of the puzzle sections. Yes i get that it would be nice to add something new to the game but the things you suggested doesn't make any sense for a half life game. Also you said 'If you want unchanged Half-Life 2 you're on the wrong website' and you would be right with that if people were only interested with gameplay enhancing mods when infact most people come onto this website to either find a new map set to play through either for a challenge or just somebody else's interpretation on half life lore. Yes people do come here for gameplay mods or graphics mods and i do believe there is probably a mod for the things you stated and well implemented it would be good IF it was a total conversion mod which separated itself from the half life setting would surely be an interesting experience.

Overall i don't think your suggestions would fit into half life two or the majority of map packs for it. It would alter the gameplay too much and stop any part of the game feeling challenging (puzzles included) but again as I said earlier if it was out into the right conditions i think it would be ok.

Anyways I was trying to keep a fairly unbiased opinion about this

I don't understand how we can agree on almost every point and come to opposite conclusions.
1. “...but half life was there to try and push the source engine to its limits and show its enhanced physics capabilities.”
Exactly. Sections which are just tech showcases *do not stand the test of time*. They're not fun a few years later. We're agreeing.
2. “I didn't enjoy that section when i played it as I felt it dragged out too long.”
Yah! It's too long! Almost all the travelling in the game is. It's fine the first time, but it's not fun afterwards. Heck you can play 20% of this game with one hand. Agreement again.
3. “It would make some sections far too easy and it would allow you to skip the majority of the puzzle sections.”
Exactly! Why would you *not* want to skip the sections we just agreed were boring? Seriously, where's your devotion towards boredom coming from?
4. “And you would be right with that if people were only interested with gameplay enhancing mods.”
Well the most popular mod on here for HL2 is MMod. That kid up there just called me a “COD fanboy” or something, like a complete idiot, not realising the very mod he came here to download adds iron sights to HL2. A feature literally popularised and reflexively associated with COD. It's almost as though people want “not-Half-Life”. It's almost as though they're bored of it. I don't know why we're pretending that modding HL2 is creating HL3. It's not. It's just a fan project. I don't get this cult-like fanaticism. What is the *point* of this dogged clinging to what we aren't interested in? If it were Valve making HL3 of *course* I wouldn't want teleportation, etc., but that's not what this is! This is just a fun experimental way to twist Half-Life into something fresh again so you actually switch your brain on while playing.
We've arrived at the point where literally anything unexpected or experimental, “Doesn't feel like Half-Life and is bad.” And that's the point where everything ossifies and dies. The point at which blind fundamentalism actually prevents enjoyment.

Thats your opinion. I believe the game play of half life to be vastly superior to doom. Half Life has Physics and puzzles, most of those other games are just minless shooters except dishonored which is the literal successor to half life and maybe Deus Ex. Bulletstorm Crysis, Doom 2016 and Hard Reset are all mindless arcade shooters.

Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal are anything but "mindless" - you just assume they're mindless because of how fast and insane they are. But not only do they require just as much, if not more, intellectual brain power as Half Life, you actually have to use this brain power 1000x faster, on the fly, non-stop.

To play Doom 2016 and Eternal on their harder difficulties you have to be constantly planning and strategizing in the heat of the battle. You have to be using the right weapons for the right enemies - which gets extremely complicated when you're facing multiple enemies that all require different weapons to dispatch quickly - you have to be moving to the correct areas of the map all the time, luring enemies to the right places and away from the wrong places, you have to pace yourself with the power ups lying around and use them at the correct moment - nothing worse than gauging it and thinking this is the right moment to use quad damage only to discover there's 10x more enemies in the next wave just as your quad damage runs out - I could go on but I'd be here all day.

In short, people who see a fast paced game and conclude "fast = mindless" are the truly mindless ones.
