heXen:Edge of Chaos will be a new and free game, based on the original Hexen game which was developed by id Software and Raven Software. Edge of Chaos is being developed by a team of fans who have always loved the original Hexen since it came out. In fact, most of us spent countless hours with the entire series. When id Software released Doom3, we immediately saw immense potential in the engine itself; the 'Hell' maps gave us the inspiration to make a hack-and-slash game based, primarily, on the original Hexen.

In our opinion it's best not to chat too idly, too much, and keep newsreleases for when we actually have something to say; hence we don't make that many newsupdates (in fact, two updates in one month is rare hehe..).

Anyway, time to let you guys in on some of the secrets and things we've been working on; more importantly: review the preview so to say.
As you know we've been working for over two years now on this Total Conversion and in those two years a lot of things have happened, so many things that it makes the media-release that Shadow Master previewed look ancient in comparison.

Not a single original Doom3 asset has survived in the current incarnation of EOC. We've literally gutted Doom3 and made all new assets from scratch. Our current build weighs in at 2,17 GB's and has over 7900 files and assets.

Edge Of Chaos has all new weaponry and uses new code. Among the weapons there will be the wraithverge from the original Hexen 1, the eyestaff from the original Hexen 1 and a new magical weapon named the 'eyebow' (working name). Another thing we are proud of is our 'living trees' invention. These are animateable trees that (through code and mapping configurations) can swing dynamically in the wind. This adds greatly to the realism of maps and the immersive experience.

Edge of Chaos is different in almost every single aspect when compared to Doom3: Quicker gameplay and action, (much) more puzzles and environmental hazards, living environments that work against you, or depending on the situation WITH you to defeat your enemies.

Hexen:Edge of Chaos has an intricate and original plot filled with twists and the unexpected. In the enemy department a lot of things have changed. No original enemy of Doom3 is used in any form; we have many new creatures based on the originals, like the Ettin and the Afrit enemies.. but we also have new enemies, like the ShadowSpawn and it's minions; the Hellions (depicted here on the right).

This is great news and the best Christmas present the folks at at Raven Game forums. We are all very excited and anxious to see the new Hexen Mod. Keep up the great work and looking forward to this event.
