Someone's been watching the Pacific, looks amazing dude... can't wait to charge the arty barage across the airfield with my fellow marines.

Did they really ever deploy 76mm Shermans in the Pacific? Considering that no Japanese tanks had armor to stand up to the standard armament, and the 76mm actually had worse HE performance than the shorter default 75mm, you'd think they'd have pretty much all of them in Europe where armored combat was actually dire for the US.

Actually in this battle right here Shermans and Japanese tanks both fought.

Two year annivesary response...

Yes I know Shermans fought in the Pacific, I'm referring to the dubious existence of the 76mm armed Shermans in that theater. The 76mm is a higher velocity tank gun designed for taking out more armored tanks, but it has a worse high explosive shell as a result. In the PTO there would be no need for a high velocity tank gun because the standard 75mm could easily take out what few thin-skinned Japanese armor there was.

Later in the war 76mm fought on all fronts but few ever made it to the pacific. Those that did fight most likely fought in Iwo Jima or Okinawa against heavy fortifications that needed higher penetration. And the fact that the HVSS chassis was much more mobile, as well as the m4a2 model meant that the murky islands and muddy terrain would be less of a problem. Coupled with the late war appearance of Jap tanks with German produced HV 75mm guns, the 76s range and accuracy made engagements with Jap armor highly one sided. Peleliu was from September to November 1944. It is highly likely that one if not several 76mm shermans hit the front by then. :) Another 2 year response LOL
