You play in the role of Captain Percy Freeman, a Special Forces officer who is assigned the task of tracking down and assassinating the renegade Colonel Kurtz. Things take a turn for the worse when, having set off on your mission, the higher-ups in the chain of command mysteriously decide that they want you dead, while you discover to your horror that someone has been breeding an inhuman master-race of hideous undead mutants which is now rampaging across the jungle slaughtering everything in its path. I keep CTD before the main menu even loads. It gives me an error telling me Unable to load surface prop file 'scripts/surfaceproperities_hl1.txt' (referenced by manifest file 'scripts/surfaceproperities_manifest.txt') Any help?

Have you Extracted the Half Life Source Content (make sure it's the hl1_pak_dir.vpk one) using a vpk.exe in a source engine game bin folder (TF2, Garry's mod or HL2/Eps) then placed/copy these folders into the Hoe folder: hl1_pak_dir/materials, hl1_pak_dir/models, hl1_pak_dir/scripts and hl1_pak_dir/sound.

Another thing is to make sure you have the updated version of this mod downloaded and put it with the hoe folder you have in the Source SDK Base 2013 SP (also make sure both this and HL:S is in beta).

As @NightFuel explained, you will need to
extract several folders from Half-Life: Source
VPKs:

Half-Life 2/hl1/materials
Half-Life 2/hl1/models
Half-Life 2/hl1/scripts
Half-Life 2/hl1/sound

You should extract these folders to 'sourcemods/hoe'

.i.e

sourcemods/hoe/<materials>
sourcemods/hoe/<models>
sourcemods/hoe/[removed]
sourcemods/hoe/<sound>

Once completed, install Heart of Evil: Source
in 'sourcemods/hoe'. Override every file when
prompted to.

Apply the Source SDK 2013 patch by extracting
it to 'sourcemods/hoe'. Override every file when
prompted to.

I got the game to work, but it crashes a lot without errors, and a lot of things are missing textures

If you have missing textures, it is possible that you do not have Half-Life: Source installed.

This mod mounts content from the Half-Life source game such as models, sound, and textures.

If you have it installed, you might want to retry installing the mod and follow the instructions carefully. A file 'Readme_fix.txt' is provided within the archive.

Ok, so i tried again. the mod worked. no missing textures. The title screen is one of the original ones from HL: S barney is original barney with the heart of evil helmet, the original HEVis there. The HUD's screwed up. I don't think there are any custom sounds, and no voice lines. Except for the soldiers, but they have the original HECU marine lines...

Hey just to say that I have played through this twice in a row and haven't had any major problems, *spoiler warning* the only minor problems I found were some wall textures would disappear and show the skybox (only happen at the start of Chapter 5 at the front gates and Chapter 6 at the jungle, over where Barney get's taken away) but these are not important at all as they only disappear if you get up close (you shouldn't need to fix them). One last thing and that is I had 1 crash, that was doing my first playthrough and it happen when I tried to use the Boat's gun at the end however when I reloaded (also when I when through it again) it never crashed again (again shouldn't need fixing as it may just be because of the scripting and random chance).

So it's good to say that this is a perfect patch and everything works fine (even play the two extra maps and noting when wrong), Good job on fixing one of the best mods out there (also one of my favorites) and good luck in the future.

P.S I will be playing through some of the patches you have released and seeing if there is any major problems however I do have alot of irl stuff going on so I won't be the fastest person on finding problems.

In regards to these issues:

1 - Some wall textures would disappear and show the skybox.

I believe I already faced problems such as this one. Sometimes, BSP surfaces render incorrectly and recompiling levels would fix the problems. When I will have time, I will take a look at this.

2 - Crash when using Gun boat.

I have not encountered any crash when using the Gun boat, but I can open a ticket for it. Since you seem interested in reporting bugs, then perhaps may I suggest you reporting those on GitHub. Bug tracking would be a lot easier.

Np but sadly I'm really busy and I don't get a chance most of the time to play games/mods (including testing) however you can be sure that I will try out some of the patches (probably the upcoming ones like DayHard and maybe some others like Half-life Invasion if I got the time), also I have never use Gibhub before but have heard of it so I may give it a shot.

Again thank you for fixing up these mods, you're doing the community a favor.
