Recently the modern Doom 3 source port DHEWM 3 released a modding sdk. This allows easier porting of Doom 3 mods and mod authoring in a similar style to vanilla Doom 3. Along with the sdk release, multiple mods have been ported. This includes Denton's enhanced Doom 3, Classic Doom 3, and now Hardqore 2 & Rivensin. The Rivensin & Hardqore gpl sdk's give developers access to creating 2.5 side scrollers and thirdperson shooters using dhewm 3!
The Rivensin and HQ2 codes should be considered alpha and need quite a bit of testing to find out any bugs and improvements. If your interested in testing out the ports, head on over to the github pages and grab the sources to compile. I plan to get some binaries for both mods online soon.Recently the modern Doom 3 source port DHEWM 3 released a modding sdk. ABOUT DHEWM 3:
dhewm 3 is a Doom 3 GPL source port, known to work on at least Windows, Linux, macOS and FreeBSD. The goal of dhewm 3 is bring DOOM 3 with the help of SDL to all suitable platforms. Bugs present in the original DOOM 3 will be fixed (when identified) without altering the original gameplay. Compared to the original DOOM 3, the changes of dhewm 3 worth mentioning are:
- +64-bit port
- +SDL for low-level OS support, OpenGL and input handling
- +OpenAL for audio output, all OS-specific audio backends are gone
- +OpenAL EFX for EAX reverb effects (read: EAX-like sound effects on all platforms/hardware)
- +Better support for widescreen (and arbitrary display resolutions)
- +A portable build system based on CMake
- +(Cross-)compilation with MinGW-w64

THE FUTURE OF RUINER AND HARDQORE 2
With source ports of both mods now kicking off, I have plans to support each one. The current goal is for all future Ruiner releases to be for the Dhewm 3 only. From a development stand point this help simplify coding, bug fixing and more. For the player, this should help create a more enjoyable experience. I hope to eventually take advantage of what Dhewm 3 has to offer.
When Ruiner development has wrapped up, I will go back and revisit HQ2 for a QOL patch and new maps for the source port. Before then I'll package up everything into 1 download instead of multiple files.
Huge thanks to Daniel Gibson for porting both mods!
Nice 👍
