*Knock Knock* Is this thing still on? Are you receiving me?
Oh hey there! If you are reading this, then good news! Hard Duty is now back and it is time for it to get released in the near future.
So, why am I showing images of HL2DM here?
Ok, look guys, you can be upset about me not being entirely forthright with you, but things happen and you make decisions that you will regret in the future; this being one of them.
Not much has happened during 2017 & 2018 with gaming and level design. What I am showing you was the 2018 update to dm_basebunker. Do you remember this map? It was the map I featured in the last news... uhm... 2 years ago.
After I updated the map to the latest version on GameBanana, I thought I would stop level design and focus on my studies and other real life priorities. And I did.
So why the sudden comeback?
Because it does not feel right for me to leave without notice and let those who followed me and even helped me develop Hard Duty fall into oblivion. To be honest, I also wanted to keep working on it, because I owe it to the mod team around here.
Why have you left in the first place?
I posted a lengthy comment a little while ago about why I left. Here it is again.
Some first-world problems arose that cost me over a year of painful going back and forth between places, which, by logic, halted the development of Hard Duty. At first, I was expecting those first-world problems to not last long, eventually getting back to developing HD. That was before we had more bad news came after already a pile of bad news. I needed to get off the Internet for a while for me to focus on the situation. If you believe it or not doesn't make a difference to me, I wanted to tell that things have been going better lately and I could finally get back to a normal life. Some of you might think "why didn't you just stay offline and come back once all your problems were fixed?" and the answer to that is I couldn't. I was committed to the development of HD and being online, seeing positive comments and feedback was making me want to continue developing.
I am in college now, which takes a bit of my time, but I do have some free time to work on Hard Duty.
Yeah, you read that right, Hard Duty is still in development and well alive, it's just painfully slow in development since I'm working on 2 other mods right now. One being Meta-Genesis, which I accepted to redo the entire level design for, and another undisclosed mod that will come shortly later on this new account that I made.
The problem here now is that most will probably not care about whatever happened to me, some will probably think I cover up the truth with a made-up story, which I can understand looking at the overall situation. I most likely lost my credibility with all this havoc, but I'll try to redeem myself.
You can still call me Peter Brev for you, old pals, but if you want to call me with my new alias, speedvoltage, I don't care.
If HD were to be completely dead, I would at least let you know either through the news or by asking the ModDB staff to archive the mod, which I haven't done, because it's not dead.
Now, if you don't believe me that HD is still very well alive, you can always look at those pictures here: Imgur.com
If you still don't believe those screenshots are actual screenshot I made while writing this comment, then I've done a screenshot with this block of text next to it Imgur.com
It was very hard for me to do this choice and it was even harder for me to come back to this very page knowing that there would be comments from fans showing their disappointment in those events. I, myself, am devastated, but what I needed to do had to be done.
I do apologize for the lack of respect I showed towards the Half-Life community and especially those who have been commenting and tracking this mod since the beginning and I apologize deeply to those who have been part fully or partly in the development of HD by vanishing all of a sudden without warning. I do intend to fix this by bringing 3 mods on the table. No dates, no false information anymore.
Lastly, if anyone on the team released parts of Hard Duty, I have no problem with it, I can't blame them.
So, with that said, where are you at with Hard Duty?
I have not touched it since this article was posted, but I will get back to it as soon as possible. Being in college makes it very difficult to find some time to level design; I only have week-ends and that is if I do not have anything to do.
I promise I will release something in the near future, be it a demo or just a small map pack, but I really want to have this done at some point.
Are those who were working with you still willing to help?
It is really up to them whether they want to give me their trust again and get back to working with me (or bring their help from time to time). Even them did not see it coming that I was disappearing.
Kudos to ModDB staff for having my ModDB account re-activated. As for my Steam account, that one is lost for good (deleted). However, if you are interested in helping me (again), new Steam account is here:
Alright, so when can we expect some new media and/or release?
Straight to the point, no release date announced. For some new media, likely in the upcoming weeks, but I am re-working a lot of the existing materials (maps) that I already did in 2016.
You should go ahead and play Half-Life: Echoes
This is a fantastic mod to play and would recommend it all day long!
If you read up until here, go ahead and post "Hard Duty for the win" in the comments.
I feel like Hard Duty is on the same level as Xen for Black Mesa, it is not releasing...
Woo... Hold your horses a moment. You can blame me for whatever you want, but not this. Speaking of Xen, I recently been reading a lot of discussion posts about how Xen will never release, that CC is "beyond a joke", "Black Mesa is a hoax", etc. And that without accounting for the random assumptions...
Seriously, you just have to look at the number of ridiculous posts in this topic alone.
"Xen is basically done and will be out very soon, we're just polishing it guys" - 24th June........
Please guys, I really cannot stress enough how excited i am for Xen, but it's kinda like when you wait for food at a resuraunt for two hours. It just makes me wanna leave and give up.
it was planned to release in december 2017 and then it was delayed. after 9 months, it still doesn't exist and i wonder how did you guys planned it to release in december 2017 :) whatever, i got the game in 2016 and i've not started. i plan to start when it's completely done, i hope it worths for so much waiting.
NO IT'S PRETY SIMPLE WHAT WE WANT
XEN_MAP01 - COMPLETE
XEN_MAP02 - COMPLETE
XEN_MAP03 - ART
GONARG_MAP01 - COMPLETE
INTERLOWER_MAP01 - GAMEPLAY
NIHILAT_MAP01 - STARTED FROM SCRATS
ITS PRETY EZ TO DO AND KNOW ONE WILL SAY BAD THINGS
It's gonna get released on 8th Novemer to celebrate 20 years of Half-Life.
3 MONTHS AGO. ARE YOU TELLING THAT THEOR NO WORK BETTER AT ALL AFTER THIS UPDATE ON JUNE 23?? IT IS THE SAME AS IT WAS FOR EVERY MAP?
Why do they deserve any benefits of doubts? They have missed their December 2017 do or die deadline that they announced in Sept 2017 by 9 months now. They said they needed 3 more months, we've given them a year and still nothing, not even a gameplay vid.
Benefits of doubts is not something CC deserves at this juncture.
lol. Soon 2019, and Xen still does not ....
Waiting 6 years for xen here
I feel like Oppossing Force remake will come out earlier
Anyway, you get my point. Back to the topic at hand.
Could you put the mod on Steam?
That is something that is entirely feasible, but I will let you decide. It will always be free, regardless of where you acquire the mod. Having it on Steam makes it easier to handle updates, new content, updates, and have access to an entire hub.
Nice screenshots you put there.
Oooooh, you want more of this?
Last but certainly not least...
Some of you may already know it, but I do mix tapes and occasionally am invited to DJ gigs. If you like Hands-Up music, consider dropping by or listening to my mix tapes :)
