Can I use it? If I am the covenant and I do the research can I start the Great Journey? Not saying I would. But could I?

It'd be sweet if you could make that a win condition. The UNSC has to prevent the Halo firing for so long while the Covies have a limited amount of time to fire the Halo.

We've decided not to make the ring a weapon in our mod. There is no real way to do most of the mechanics the fans are asking for, including yourself, so the best option we could go with was allowing you to control it and gain hefty benefits from owning it, but not being able to end the galaxy.

Just about any way we go with this it's going to **** off some section of the fan-base, so we have to go with the option we feel is best for gameplay. We're not a big fan of superweapons at SotP, because the mod focuses on tactics and strategy. Deus ex machina don't really fit that view. We hope you guys can understand why we've gone this route.

That being said, it isn't as if the Halo will be a dull prop somewhere that shows up and has no effect. Lets just say we have plans for the ring, and you will have a good reason to secure it, just like the shield world.

You know, it could be used to replace the planet you have to take and hold in the occupation victory. Maybe?

We already have other plans for that. There is still one Forerunner structure we haven't shown you...

What kind of benefits would the ring give the owner? Research boost cause of the flood facilities on the ring? Economic boost due to the tech and natural habitats etc, ship & Damage boost....

You got to give us some idea guys PLLLZ.

I'm completely on board with not making it a superweapon. That being said, you mentioned that there will be bonuses for controlling one. Is it possible that you could perhaps make those bonuses pertain to more easily defending/fighting the flood?

No.

That killed of the fun when the UNSC were able to call in the flood.

No I was thinking giving some sort of immunity to the flood infection ability or something akin to giving a huge advantage in battle.

Perhaps you developers could make an additional game mode that actually focuses on using the rings as super weapons. you will need to control shield worlds to survive the rings power. and to activate the rings, hold installation 00 or a same kind of ring factory/control center for a certain amount of time. A king of the hill kind of game mode i guess. Would be pretty cool and intense.

I don't think that would work well.

of course this can only be realized if the game engine allows it, and if there is room for such implementation within the mod maker's idea of what the mod needs to become :)

Idea: Since the super-weapon aspect is off the table (a good thing in my mind), would it be possible that ownership of the grav well with a Halo in it can give (depending on the player's faction choice) a Culture boost to the Covenant or a Tech/Research boost to the UNSC?

Description

The Rings also acted as a hub for Flood-based research, even after the threat was long since thought to be contained. However, it's been proven throughout history that a single flood spore can destroy a species given only the right opportunity.
