I didn't want to do a grandiose scene for Thel. You know who he is, what he's capable of, you don't need my art to tell you that, with him clobbering a group of marines or staring down a Spartan. I wanted something cold, impersonal, and marginally sinister. This is a dangerous commander, someone who's killed billions, but you don't need me to explain that to you. Thel isn't scary because of his stature, a missing mandible, or some other character trait. Thel is scary because he is above all things, a cold, and sinister commander. You don't fear him for what he is, but for what he can do.
