I wouldn't face this behemoth of a railgun without an entire fleet...

I think , if your were Covenant, at least 6 Cruisers, cause that's, roughly 24 Plasma Cannons, I think that's enough to blow up crucial areas, like engines, bridge, escape pods, and other things like that. So I don't think you need a fleet. Forerunner, maybe several warships, UNSC, prehaps 3 Infinity class heavy warships and one or two carriers, my guess.

I really like every part of this ship but aren't archer pods too few for a ship like this?
They are just four per side where marathon has ten...

You might not be taking in the fact that literally half of the ship is a gigantic railgun.

Well you are right but it has fewer archers than a frigate...
However i got your point, it's two super mac are so good and fast that missiles are just obsolete if compared to.
Also what about Everest?
Is it going well?

The ship's entire purpose is the dual-railgun system on the front. It goes behind enemy lines without a fleet to kill the enemy where it sleeps. The only MAC more powerful in the UNSC arsenal is the SMAC station that is powered by a planet. If she's in range to make effective use of her missiles, she's already dead.

Besides, the Orion was effectively designed to kill the Covenant, capital ships to be precise. Therefore the Archer missiles which are almost useless against shielding except in large quantities would take a backseat to the single most powerful piece of weapons technology in the UNSC arsenal. Well excluding nuclear warheads anyway.

Why, exactly, didn't the UNSC mass produce nukes once the cat got out of the bag...?

Nukes weren't very effective against the Covenant. Anytime they were ever used was point blank. Prowlers would lay mines that the ships would otherwise not be able to detect, and would thus destroy the first wave of the Covenant fleet. By that time, the Prowler is useless because they were spotted soon afterwards and would have to retreat while the main UNSC fleet engaged.

The only other time a tactical nuke was ever used correctly was when Keyes remote piloted a Longsword into a destroyer's downed shields and detonated the nuke once the ship's shields came back up, effectively magnifying the nuclear payload.

It wasn't a destroyer that Keyes did that too, it was the Covenant Super Cruiser which until then, had proven itself unbeatable. Otherwise you would be entirely accurate. Whilst having an overall detonation power greater than a MAC by several times a nuke is not a controlled blast and as such most of the energy is lost to space and thus, wasted. A MAC however can transfer most or all of its kinetic energy to the intended target resulting in an overall much more effective weapon against the Covenant.

Um, it's impossible to mount Super MAC's onto the Orion even if it was the largest warship so far, because the nessicary power to power a Super MAC requires planet based generators, so the two MAC's onboard can't be Super MAC meaning that they are just ordinary ship borne MAC's

I love the description. What role would it play if the Orion were to be in a fleet? A sniper?

Likely, and i guess one of these things without escort wouldn't be very effective versus smaller ships.

Description

It's been said that when the Orion-class was revealed to the public in 2538, a significant portion of United Rebel Front ships abandoned their posts and requested amnesty. With the first ever confirmed Assault Carrier kill just 7 months into its deployment, it's hard to argue against both the damage it can dish out and the hope it represents to the public.
