Don't want to spoil the plans concerning this structure, but let's just say it's never been attempted in SoaSE before.
Well I guess it has something to do with slipspace as it bears some resemblance to the East Africa portal
"never been attempted before" there are already wormholes in SoaSE, so it must be something else, i'm very intrigued :)
possibly something that the game would take place inside of? mabye something that surrounds the entire map? (hints from that FB photo)
maybe it would allow you to choose the exit grav well effectively allowing you to attack anywhere at any time.
my other guess is a shipyard of some sort.
I think once captured it charges up and then destroys all life in the area .... there will be three, capture all three and you win.
If that was the case though, wouldn't a Halo Ring be the more obvious choice for the model?
That's why I said "something", I'm intrigued by "never been attempted before" as well. Quite what it does and if it has anything to do with slipspace is anyone's guess.
well (again from the fb photo) there was a ship just coming out of slipspace INSIDE the ring. Maybe it goies on the outside of the gravity well instead of the center?
sounds to me like a Forerunner superweapon...I might be wrong...
im thinking a portal to the ark, as it looks close to the portal in Halo 3 in new Mombasa, ever that or it is a forerunner shipyard, or dyson sphere construction ring etc etc, in other words we will not know till release

You are going to attempt to make artificial wormholes, if I'm right pm me.
no clue if this is what it will be for but the idea just came into my head. Make it a planet type that you can travel to and take control of, with the bonus that it has weaponry built into it.

I think its a slipspace hub that connects to all planets. Easy Forerunner tech
maybe a start goes in there and it acts all dyson sphere like? maybe you can colonize a star with one of these around it?

No, thats The Ark, which this isnt. Also, I dont think the Halo rings have been mentioned more than once or twice.

I think it is a intergalactic.... ice cream hub. All space fairing creatures may go here safely and purchase their favorite ice cream. This one is the best because it's true space cow ice cream, and not the freeze dried stuff.

How about it's a portal to portal slipspace generator (AKA wormhole) but instead of sitting inside the gravity it sits surrounds the gravity well and produces a slipspace entry in the middle of it.
My guess is it allows you ships to go to any from that building, maybe not back to that system but from it to any other. Based of the portal look.
Maybe be both mine and yours, you know a smaller one for inside a gravity one and a larger one too surround the wormhole/slipspace rupture

I won't jump in on the guessing game, but I will applaud the beautiful craftsmanship and express again my desire for this Mod. I can't wait to get my digital hooks in it.
The most Epic Planetary shield/cannon/portal/factory ever, the forerunners are known for combining things. eg the Ark (builds, maintains, fires halo rings, command center, habitat reserve for species study, flood containment [I read that somewhere], population center, shipyard [during war with humanity] etc.
Not to burst the bubble of everyone guessing, but if you were paying attention to the forums the last few weeks you would know exactly what it was supposed to be.
Also, if you DO know, keep it a surprise :D
