Most didn't have them - to my knowledge, only Earth, Reach and maybe Onyx and Tribute had the arrays. As for the planets that did have them had about 150 to 200 defense platforms, the stations were set up in firing clusters with 3 to 5 stations in each group. Earth's network, however, had about 300. That being said, most colonies did have the mass drivers left over from the original colony ships, and those could have easily been repurposed into weaker ground based MAC cannons for defensive means.

150-200? Reach had 20, Earth has 300, Onyx had none and Tribute is in the same system as Reach would have been defended by the UNSC fleet stationed there.

I can't see Earth having 300 in-game, to overpowered.

no it certainly won't be 300, however Reach had only 20. Reach the primarily operations of the military, so most bases had either 5-10, maybe 15, with reach being the highest amount of SMAC's. My guess - Earth just got the overhaul cause it was all that was left + a handful of colonies. The only real thing holding back a covenant fleet was SMAC's, so they overdosed it with MAC stations. I highly doubt that they were all SMAC's however. They might have been regular MAC guns with a center SMAC.

If clusters of 3, then that would mean that for every SMAC, there is two regular MAC stations, earth had around 100 SMAC and 200 MAC stations.

Though another thing is - I don't even think they had finished or really STARTED the grid before Earth got invaded as the plan for the grid didn't get approved until after the fall of reach. Building 300 SMAC's is no easy task and the UNSC was on the brink of collapse at that time, I really don't see it pulling the resources so quickly a month after the fall of reach into building 300 SMAC's that same month or even the month after.

Typically you can have 30-35 tactical slots for whatever you want, if it's 35 SMAC's, it's 35 SMAC's, though hangers and repair bays will take up a huge number of tactical slots.

Earth had 100 geosync platforms, Johnson said so in the first 5 mins of Halo 2.

The only planets that are ever mentioned having SMACs in orbit were Reach with 20 and Earth with 300. You are not able to get that many in the mod.

And no most colonies did not have the ground based one as that was usually replaced once the colony could get trash up to space easier. Harvest was just odd.

"Men, we led those dumb bugs out to the middle of nowhere to keep 'em from gettin' their filthy claws on Earth. But, we stumbled onto somethin' they're so hot for, that they're scramblin' over each other to get it. Well, I don't care if it's God's own anti-son-of-a-bitch machine, or a giant hula hoop, we're not gonna let 'em have it! What we will let 'em have is a belly full of lead, and a pool of their own blood to drown in! Am I right, Marines?" Sargent Johnson 2552

i think that's just the curvature of the Earth. If you look closely at the planet's bottom right hand corner(figuratively speaking as a circle does not HAVE a corner), you will see the edge of the South American continent. It looks like an excellent texture, can't wait to defend it like a cornered animal >:)

well the Gorgon is an older ship. Midlothian has never been seen until halo way point did the video of the short story. The Heart of Midlothian would be a cool Capital ship to match the CCS Battlecruiser. i must say it does look mean.

what you should do is have a super mac cap for the planet. and be able to create them through the defense structure... but instead of placing them around, the just scatter around earth (close to orbit, and unable to select. and really small like those tower things they have on planet surfaces.) and treat them like space mines where it doesnt affect your overall cap but theres still a limit.
