That's a great point about large-scale space fleet combat games. There is a huge lack of them, especially on consoles (though it is understandable due to performance constraints), but even on PC there aren't a lot. I know myself that ever since reading The Fall of Reach waaaaaay back in 2001-02 that the space combat part of Halo was one of my favorite aspects of the franchise, but Bungie kept skirting around it, giving us teases here and there but never actually showing a full battle. 343 has done somewhat better in that regard, but I think the idea that there is a market for a Halo space combat game is totally correct and that they are missing out on a good chunk of money by ignoring it. At least we have SotP to fill our need! Great work guys!

SotP, Homefront, CaW, a few others that haven't been touched in a long time. The community provides!

I think Unikraken should give out Free Licenses for Autodesk Maya because of this achievement.

Congratulations. You have made a half-way to 100.000... *Whispers* And it's a good moment to make a short stop for next celebratory release... I hope you will have enough patience, luck, time and ideas to finish the job and achieve 100.000 followers.

Untill then... Steady as she goes, to Infinity and beyond!

I would like to thank everyone on the dev team and anyone else involved in producing this mod. You guys really made my dreams come true when I discovered this mod. After reading the books I always wanted to play a game where I could put ships against ships and I have it. You really are awesome and thank you for everything you will do and everything you have done. <3

No doubt in my mind that SotP would be this popular. The quality of the mod in every aspect and the involvement from the devs involving the community is up there with some of the best mods I've yet to see on this site or any other. Keep it up guys and a massive congratulations!

Well, SotP damn well deserves the love it's been getting. Not just an amazing Halo mod but one of the best mods for SoaSE in general, and that's saying something! You guys do a fantastic job and you've earned every one of those downloads, if only there was some kind of monetary return on it. Where you at 343?

"As far as we can determine, we're the largest Halo mod that has ever existed (including downloads from non-ModDB sources). We have the largest playerbase of any Halo mod, from total conversion down to single asset replacement."

Congratulations guys! Though, personally, I am not very surprised, as the only other Halo mods that I have seen were either not very good, or not anywhere near completion, or only had half the game(all the EAW FOC mods, anyone?). So kudos for that too!

As for having the biggest layerbase of any Halo mod, that too does not surprise me! As frackin awesome as this mod is, it has very little lag(on my crummy laptop), as opposed to most Sins mods, and it is easily one of my favorite mods to play!

Description

Good morning everyone!

This passed week our 0.56.1 release of the mod hit 50,000 downloads on ModDB!

This wonderful milestone got us thinking about what exactly that number meant in the context of the Halo modding community. How well were we doing?

We did some hunting around this weekend to confirm a suspicion we've had for some time and we'd like to share our findings with you: As far as we can determine, we're the largest Halo mod that has ever existed (including downloads from non-ModDB sources). We have the largest playerbase of any Halo mod, from total conversion down to single asset replacement.

That a space combat mod is the most popular mod in the Halo community is astounding to ourselves and we think it speaks volumes to the desire of Halo's fanbase for more ship-based content from 343. Any notion that space combat is too niche of a genre for 343 Industries to make money in should be swept away. A franchise built around an FPS, where ship combat is only detailed in lore-thick novels, has it's most popular mod be entirely about the ships, featuring absolutely no ground gameplay. That's something!

We also want to thank everyone for their patience while we work on the next version of the mod. We know you're all very eager to play what we've been working on over the last year and we're equally excited to get to into your hands when it's ready. Please continue to keep sharing our updates and telling your friends about Sins of the Prophets!
