"being able to deflect and absorb incoming damage"

Most if not all UNSC technology is from before contact with the Covenant. The deflection aspect of angled armour would still be relevant in design when the Thanatos was drawn up, but become less useful with the introduction of energy weapons.

Angled armour still provides advantages by effectively having a thicker cross section depending on the angle of attack though.

Like WW2 teach, just look at T-34s and their light armor yet angled and effective, or even Sherman front glacis...

Description

Showcasing the new Thanatos-class Heavy Destroyer.

This beast of a ship is capable of taking far more damage due to it's more sleek and angular shape being able to deflect and absorb incoming damage as opposed to the aged Orthrus-class Destroyer. It's compact, durable, made to pack a punch and look menacing at the same time. In the second picture, the blast shield is down. It goes down when the ship enters combat and it comes back up when it feels the area is safe.

Also in this update, you should notice that the barrel of the single naval gun at the front is a different color from the standard yellow. That is because turrets now have team and stripe colors as well, to better signify what belongs to who.

The last picture in this dump is of the new death effects, courtesy of Stargazer from the really awesome Star Trek: Continuum mod. Really go check it out, even if you aren't a fan of Star Trek because their mod is super amazing and will blow you away with what it can do.
