The campaign of this mod takes place during the Seven Hour War. You mostly command armies of Combine Synths and Advisors, but on some levels you will play as the Human Armies, and on special levels you get to play as a Gonarch commanding Headcrabs, or as Glowing Antlion Guardians commanding Antlion Colonies. In Co-Op mode, both players play as one army of the team. They share resources and work together against the enemy. In Multiplayer Local, 1 player with up to 3 ally bots against 4 enemy bots, play against each other. Teams to be chosen involve Combine, Americans/Germans/Japanese/Russian, headcrabs and antlions. Online multiplayer will be like local multiplayer, but with actual living opponents, open slots being replaced by bots. The armies are vast, the stories are vast, the combat is vast. Everything you can expect out of the seven hour war, and more. WE ARE RECRUITING!!!!!! We need programmers, skinners, modelers, anyone who can help is welcome to an interview!

No, actually, all of blue shift AND opposing force is canonical. Valve accepts the content as canon.

Race X included.

"When asked on many occasions, the Half-Life series' writer Marc Laidlaw has said that during the development of Opposing Force, they (Valve) didn't insist that Gearbox developers abide by their rules and, likewise, Laidlaw generally did not factor in Gearbox's plot events when working on the story for Valve games. He had some input into the expansions writing, but it is unknown how much exactly, officially credited plot writers being only Gearbox employees, supervised by Randy Pitchford."

The fact that he did not factor in gearbox's plots when continuing the HL2 story means it is not canon as the events are not connected.

It's well known that Valve have regarded race-x and the events that Barney Calhoun were in as non-canical, it's your word vs. the Half-Life universe creators themselves here.

The number on the left is the radiation level on a non-standard meter, while the number on the right has an S after it for the predicted lifetime of an average human in that environment.

I think dangerous cat wondered why you die faster on 62 than on 73 when it should be the opposite way around

Description

This is a radiation map used to determine locations to place battles in the mod. This radiation is monitored by military, and this texture looks like this because it will be seen in a cutscene on a digital display. This radiation is here because of the nuke that detonated inside the black mesa facility.
