Dark Matter is the unofficial final chapter in the Half-Life saga. Step into the boots of Kovac, an agent of the Special Black Operations unit tasked with containing the situation after the failed experiment at the Black Mesa Research Facility. When Gordon succeeds in launching the Omega satellite delivery rocket, the government becomes concerned that the HECU failed to stop the launch, and that Freeman is a major threat to the military machine and the cleanup operation itself. Your unit is deployed in order to observe the military forces and assist when necessary. On route to the insertion point, your unit's helicopter is caught in a portal storm and ends up crashing somewhere in the facility. You awaken several hours later, new orders have come in, the research facility has passed the point of no return. All units are to assist in delivery of the package, the final hours of the Resonance Cascade have begun...
Finally in this small update, I am proud to bring you the first brand new weapon in Dark Matter - the M9 Bayonet!
Introduced into the US military in 1986, and used in various combat zones throughout the years, the M9 is a well known knife model. In Dark Matter it is the standard boot knife of the Special Black Operations unit.
In the primary function it is just like any knife, used to slash things in the face and smash crates open. In it's secondary function, if Kovac can carefully sneak up on an enemy, a single stab will instantly kill most lower tier foes such as grunts. Be careful though, if you're detected before you can strike, the secondary attack will be unusable and will have to dispatch your foe by other means or even go "loud" instead.
Dark Matter has some sections where a stealth approach may be a better option than all guns blazing, and the knife along with a silenced glock provide the tools to make it past the enemy without bringing them all down on you.
You begin the game with this trusted friend, beaten and bloody, you'll need to carefully make it past the HECU hordes quietly if you want to escape alive...
