This is the late-war version of the german infantry. We will of course feature an early war variant with the Pickelhaube.

very nice detail. its nice to see that you used the M1910 uniform rather than the no-piping and covered buttons of the M1915.

WOW! Amazing job there, guys!

That is an M1916 Stahlhelm, right? I like the ventilation 'holes' (don't know what are they called in German)

Anyway, looking forward to this mod, of course!

the correct term i think for german soldiers aint schütze but it is Landser -A German colloquial term for a soldier derived from the above, equivalent to the English term "squaddie". It was particularly used during World War I and II.

This is a Rifleman. Schütze in German.
You are right about soldiers in general being called Landser, but in this pic we are featuring a Rifleman.

This is the M1910 Tunic. For 1914 maps.
We will probably make the M1915 next for 1915-1918 maps.

Pretty much nitpicking, but originally most of the leather gear wasn't blackened but brown. However, soldiers would start to blacken their ammo pouches, etc. themselves.
Another minor issue would be the size of the pouches. In WWI regular infantry pouches were bigger(they took 3 stripper clips each instead of 2 like in WWII). The small ones, which were used by all units in WWII were mostly used by cavalry units in WWI. And then there's the Gewehr 88 pouches...
But that would go too far I suppose. Just changing the color would suffice to increase realism. ;)

For further optical references I can highly recommend these small Osprey books. They may not be the most detailed but should give you a good insight on the most basic stuff. Another nice source would be photos from reenactors, most of these are extremely focused on authenticity so you could get nice info from them as well.

Apart from that, congrats on the great work. I have a M15 tunic replica at home(which is quite similar in shape and color) and your models and textures look very realistic.

Good job, I see he's part of a certain unit, the shoulderboard being early war as well as the tunic. However, if you're going for early war he'd be wearing a covered pickelhaube and browned leather instead of blackened. Also, those pouches he's wearing are WWII. The WWI pouches are a bit more thick and also browned. Now for your late war guys, black leather you'd see more often. :) Also can't tell, but the belt buckle should also be browned. Good job!

this is basically a reworking of the ro2 german soldier, but with good detailed changes. smart move since the proportions will match and the animations will mesh. and the ro2 soldiers are already very good quality as well.

though i would like to see the russian greatcoat reworked and fitted onto german infantry.

The clothes textures look a little low resolution. The buttons don't really look like they pop out. Try adding a little bit more pronounciation on the buttons in the coat's texture normals. But otherwise, looks good!

Description

Our german player model which Kaminski did a fantastic job on. Please mind that these are still a work in progress, but this in-engine shot out of the Red Orchestra 2 editor shows where we are at the moment. We are proud to present our German Schütze to all of you. Thanks to Kaminski for the great modelling and texturing work as well as Coin-goD for the import into the engine.
