GMDX V10 is a community made update for the GMDX mod. It features over 1400 new changes, in areas ranging from artistic direction to deepened function, and even bug fixing and attempts to reinforce adherence to canon. It's been built to have zero obligation (should a user not prefer it) by using a separate installation and save directory. Many save files are supported retroactively, although some hiccups do occur, as this was not a strictly intended feature. In our opinion, the game looks better, runs better, is balanced better. If you're looking for a way to facelift Vanilla or simply touch up GMDX, we think you'll enjoy what we bring to the table with v10. By the community, for the community.

Please tell me this isn't an April Fools joke.
I've been waiting 554 days for this.
MessageLog:"The team's ability to get a working installer has been the joke year round. They've decided they're done joking."
Is there any way to get borderless widescreen?
Or change the brightness? The brightness slider doesn't do anything for me and I can't see s*** in the first mission.
And one more slightly unconventional question:
I seem to have a problem with my PC these days where in older games my mouse movement is jerky/jumpy/inconsistent.
I noticed I have that problem with Deus Ex too, but when I install GMDX, the problem is gone.
Do you know, does GMDX change the mouse input somehow? Because I'm trying to find out why it's messing up so many of my old games. I must have tried a hundred things by now.
Thanks.
MessageLog:"What render device did user choice? Dark brightness and lack of brightness slider functionality are often attributed to OpenGL. Borderless fullscreen requires Kenties which is known to have a number of compatibility issues with the 'v10' Community Update. It was not built to support complex structure mods and its inflexibility is why v9 and vRSD require you to override your vanilla localization file for instance. This is in addition to issues running on some systems and sometimes deleting users' saves. Unit does not have a known fix for inconsistent mouse but will ask around."
I was using DX9, just because it had “(Recommended)” written beside it.
But I've switched to DX10 now and everything looks better again, and the brightness slider is working.
Maybe you should shift that “recommended” tag up to DX10 instead.
Thanks for helping with the mouse thing. Maybe put a word in with the community for a bigger push towards Borderless Fullscreen too. It's a pretty essential feature these days.
In the UNATCO HQ, in the conference room, the certificate on the wall beside the dev group photo. It contains an “it's” when it should be “its”.
Also, I have a pretty solid PC with a GTX 970. What in your informed opinion, is the simplest way to go about gaining the most frames back in FPS performance terms? What graphical features are hitting my performance the hardest?
Thanks!

MessageLog[0]="Unit has asked around but the mouse issue does not have enough specific information for any help to be had. More details may help but it is not Unit's area of expertise."
MessageLog[1]="D3D10 is curiously being rejected by many users at the moment due to issues with a recent wave of Nvidia drivers that are forcing massive performance drops. The Team was in fact directly messaged about this from a friend of speedrunners reporting this issue and they suggested we stop bundling d3d10 altogether. We kept it because more options are nice to have in edge cases. Funny how things have turned out in your case thereafter."
MessageLog[2]="Borderless fullscreen would be very nice but has been requested repeatedly to the author of Launch. However they are quite busy at the moment and cannot get to it. They have also been busy for quite some time it seems."
MessageLog[3]="The typo cannot be easily fixed as it requires modifying texture files and the texture specialist on the team has been away for some time unfortunately."
MessageLog[4]="For best FPS Unit highly recommends selecting a processor based on the strength of each thread and not the overall output in GHZ. The game can only process a single thread of processing at a time due to engine constraints. This is not unlike emulating PS2 games from what Unit has heard. Allegedly even most graphics are calculated on the CPU for Deus Ex and not the GPU."
I'm getting some weird music-looping-over-itself issues, or something like it.
Or maybe it's the track triggering twice starting at different times.
Could it be a 120fps issue?
Or a switching-from-DX9-to-DX10-mid-playthrough issue?
MessageLog:"Switching render device should not cause this issue. Curious. Did user pick AL Audio by chance? A number of abnormal behaviors with audio are known to occur with it. Normally galaxy does not allow for 2 music tracks to be played. If this is not the case please list any maps where this issue has occurred so it may be checked against any changes in music manager logic."
1. does the energy shield still use the torso slot? saw a reply that the issue is on the list for the next update so, is this that next update?
2. I noticed that the txt file documenting the old perks and the new perks has a mistake in the old stealth perks section as it instead shows the old athletics perks, I assume someone just copy-pasted something wrong

MessageLog[0]:"Energy shield was indeed resolved but due to a bad log on the FTP was not reported in this update. Energy shield should no longer conflict with certain aug configurations."
MessageLog[1]:"Yes. It appears that the athletics text was copied and pasted into the stealth skill and never filled in. Curious. A cataloguing error when going through large volumes of entries it seems. Unit appreciates issue reporting. Unit will log this issue for resolution later."
This version works nicely for me. I usually play on 'Reaistic' difficulty, but I've tried 'Medium as well, and I see in the description that the 'SOFT SPOT' Feat only works on locks with less that 10% difficulty. If I stop picking a lock early and it's got less than 10% left, it works, but I've not found less than 10% locks in the 'wild'.
What am I doing wrong?
MessageLog:"This is how soft spot is intended to be used. For lockpicking to prime a lock for opening and a crowbar to finish it. It is surprising that no 10% or less locks exist naturally. They are rare past the first level even in the base game but do exist."
Has some random stuttering which doesn't make the game unplayable but is quite annoying.
MessageLog:"Apologies for the late reply. User should consider using d3d9 if d3d10 was being used. If user continues to see performance drops then d3d11 may be pursued but with configuration with the 'preferences' console command. Set tesselation set to false and tessdefaultfactor set to 0. Then reboot the game."
I have no idea on how to install this, there is NO readme about it, nothing. Are there pre-requisities like having V9 installed? Why are there multiple "system" folders in the instalation. Pls help!
Just wanted to say thank you for your work. I had some noob issues with instalation but solved that. Game is looking really good now with your mod. I can see a lot of work was poured into this and the game certainly deserves that! I have not played Deus Ex 1 for two decades, played it back in the days when it released. Playing it now as a adult, who can actually understand what is happening there (not a native speaker) gives the game another dimension of depth. Oh yeah... this is gonna be gooooood
MessageLog:"Unit is glad you are enjoying your experience. Let Unit know if you have any other concerns. Thank you."
Any chance this can be combined with the Lady Denton mod?
If it's just grunt work, I'd be happy to help.
MessageLog:"This aspect has been considered. Unit may ask around about the topic to learn more once development picks back up."
Shooting from shotguns or plasma gun either by npc's or me is lagging the game.
MessageLog:"Ensure you have not selected AL audio but instead Galaxy audio device. Similar issues were reported under these circumstances."
One thing I raised to the RSD mod is that the enemy (bots in my case) always knows where you are once they were hurt, even not by you. That rendered hiding and invisibility totally useless. I would like the enemies not automatically know where you are even if they were shot.
MessageLog:"This is issue is complicated. The AI enters attacking state when fighting. If AI is fighting another AI and the player intervenes they are already ignoring further visibility and seeking behavior in exchange for combat readiness. Unit will put this on the list to be considered if or when development resumes. If you are talking about another kind of AI being hurt please clarify. One example might be if an AI was taking damage from a broken poison gas barrel. Would this also create this problem for you?"
Let me give you 2 examples to check.
1st is the first level, patrol bot outside of liberty statue. I set the turret to attack it and then hide. Once the bot was attacked by the turret, it immediately knows where I am and come to attack me. This is one.
2nd is in Hong Kong lucky money club. The Hong Kong police will shoot me no matter who broke the shop's glasses, thinking it was me who did it.
And in DXHR your invisibility doesn't break even after you attacked someone. However in DX your invisibility literally become useless once you attacked somebody and seems everybody shoots at me. LOL.
I'm very happy you did reply me! Thank you for keeping deus ex great.
Aside from the examples I raised, there were issues where enemies get hurt by things unseen but immediately return fire at me, like they were harmed by an explosive planted there, or shot by me but from out of visual.... these reduced the realism of stealth and trap setting.
And I would like the game to stay true to the lore. There shouldn't be some super enemies near the later half of the game to balance the difficulty, for you were supposed to have become super human and things logically should become easier, instead of more difficult. At least not when facing single enemy. This is one problem I've always had with games like wing commander or so.... the more you win, the more difficult it becomes. Man, are we really winning the war?
MessageLog:"Unit has read these messages. Thank you for the information. Unit agrees that minimizing super enemies is important for staying true to the game's intentions. Unit will stay tuned for any more thoughts you have in the future."
Another update coming any time soon?
It's been another 6 months.
MessageLog:"As was informally announced on the official discord the team is currently split on multiple real world diversions and will be busy for some time. The mod is on hiatus for the time being."
Anything coming up?
It's been another 9 months.
Have tried earlier last week to install and play, but this installer doesn't seemingly install gmdx, every time I have tried it makes an empty folder (if I point to a folder to install into) and a useless shortcut to a GMDX10 that's supposed to be installed (but doesn't).
Just tried to add an exclusion to Windows Defender, and still nothing
MessageLog:"This installer was made expressly to reduce issues with the installation process. Unit is sorry to hear about the troubles presented. However Unit also does not know of any steps that can be taken to resolve them at this time. Checking one's antivirus is recommended but it seems user has already done this."
I tried it. It didn't work. After installation, when I run it, it says it was missing core.dll, engine.dll and window.dll
I manually copied these 3 files from the normal deus ex system folder to the gmdxv10 system folder, then it allows me to do the setup, but comes up with error message when it tries to start the game. :(
MessageLog:"Sorry for the late reply. Unit has been elsewhere. Do you have a copy of the error message it gives? A screenshot or text quote may suffice."

I record the whole installation process and running process for you to see.
MessageLog:"If you go to your Z:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Deus Ex\GMDXv10 folder is there also a 'GMDXv10' folder inside of it? IF this is the case then try installing to your DeusEx main directory instead of a custom subdirectory. The prompt it gave you may be a false warning."
seems to work now!!!!
can the game run multi-core?
MessageLog:"No. The game engine can only run on a single core due to its age. As far as I know this cannot be changed."
Understood. Thank you for being responsive. :)
the remote controlled gep rocket doesn't follow my setup of inverted Y axis.
The hit marker doesn't work even enabled. I found that in gmdxv10user.ini->deusex.human->bHitmarkerOn=False, despite I enabled it. I manually change it to =true and will see how it goes.
I like how Paul is vulnerable in the ton hotel saving brother paul mission. I used to modify my own deus ex to make all unkillable character killable and see how they fare in that case. The vulnerable Paul make saving him a lot more difficult and resource exhausting!
Also there's a kind of water machine that kept telling me I can't drink from it. The one with bottle on the top. I dun have hunger mode on but it still forbids me from drinking.
The 5.56 machine gun doesn't auto reload after emptying its magazine and has to be manually reloaded.
in the mj12 and unatco level, the water drinking works again
and manually editing hitmarkeron=true works.
some later water dispenser still not drinkable.
it'll say you can't consume this anymore.
