Galaxy At War - Clone Wars is a total conversion mod for the Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption 2006 real-time strategy that brings us the Clone Wars galactic conflict
We put our clones on a diet and now they are skinier :D
Ok, now serious. I know some of you may not like what I'm going to say, but trust me I spent enough time thinking about it.
To keep it short, two major things will change in the current mod course:
- We will leave NeoMarz model for the clones. I know I was the main opponent of that decision and it had to be taken long time ago, but now is fact. We will use the clones from CWA. I know we were ready with about 95% of all planned clones, but this is for the best and we had to do it anyway for V2.
- The second thing is, that I've reallized that our approach to mod coding is wrong on basic level and most likely if we continue like this we will never be able to produce something good enough for public release. So, I have an idea how to fix that, but it starts of course with full recode.
In general, I'm actually planning to rebuild the mod from scrach. And trust me this is the only way.
But there are some good news of course:
- The new clones comes with more animations. I found a way to export the awesome animations from Republic Commando and now the clones has more animations than ever, including Melee Attacks. (I'm working on implementing that ingame I think I know a way to make it work)
- With little pointing in the right direction from @the_Farseer I managed finally to make working clones that fire correctly while moving
- Actually about 30% of the materials from the old clones can be reused in creating the new ones and we have tons of textures from CWA for the new models and this will speed up a lot the proccess
So, stay around to see how the Grand Army of the Republic will be reborn very soon
PS: I actually finally fixed the ugly twist of the left hand the NeoMarz's model had
*Credits for the new clone trooper:
- original model and textures - LA, from the game CWA
- original animations, LA, from the game RC
- rigging, model and animation modifications - suerteto
Damn, so much text... I should've made an article :D
Hey man, I understand. You just want to make the mod fantastic and fun. I can't wait to see what you do with it. It's like what they say "You must wait for the best things". The hype for this mod is still real.
By the way, what is CWA?
I believe he's talking about Clone Wars Adventures. It's an old online multiplayer game set during the Clone Wars. You got to play mini games, get a house and customize it, go to different planets, etc. Lot of stuff. It's since been shut down, but there is a group of people creating an identical emulator for it. You can do everything that the old CWA had, and you won't have to pay for special currency.
really where is the emulator?
There's a youtube channel and a facebook page that gives relatively regular updates on progress. I've played the emulator, even though it wasn't close to done, and it was looking very promising. The channel is called CWAEmu and the website is CWAEmulator with some added **** I can't remember.
Huh..... I've never heard of it tbh....
i didn't know about it either
Wow, I gotta say I'm a huge fan of starting the mod from scratch, Suerteto! I love that you're using the textures from CWA. (I used to play it when the TCW show was on. lots of memories with it!) It fits well with the RC animation IMO. And you got melee animations!? This will really set the mod apart from others. Though I'm curious, will 70% of the textures for units be from CWA? Cause honestly I'm fine with that. They got some nice *** textures, and I don't just mean their Padmé model. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Ahahaha....
Well, I can't estimate how many textures actually we will use, but trust me, as much as possible :)
so your redoing all the clones?
Yes, all of them as even the Phase 1 Cold troopers needs the new animations
well good luck on that. may the force be with you!
Thanks :)
your welcome!
If doing a complete rebuild from scratch is what this mod needs to get finished, then that's what it needs. Best of luck! :)
Guys, thank you all for the understanding and the support. It really means a lot to me
better an awesome mod that takes a year to release, than an EA-ish game today. patience is a virtue, as known from our common frienemy xizor.
Though the mod having to be restarted is a bit disappointing, I'm glad it isn't joining the pile of conceptually great mods that are dead/in stasis for whatever reason e.g. a mod based on, and named after, the RTS Universe at War: Earth Assault, Starship Troopers: 1st Interstellar War, Halo: First Offensive, etc.
I understand how disappointing can be, it's disappointing for me, but it's for the best :)
I've never made a mod before, but it seems reasonable that it's a lot of pressure and hard work.
Nice Job! :)
Thank you
ell ****, see you in 2020 mod, lmao
now now, let's not jump that far ahead ;)
